What trousers to buy for DS to go Hiking?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm off into Nottingham centre this afternoon, will pop into the outdoors shop to see if they have got suitable waterproof trousers.
There are some on ebay, but the seller can't give me any measurements of them, as they don't want to unpack them

A poncho isn't much help if you are wading thru knee/waist-high bracken which is sopping wet tho'.....I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.
