  • BT its good to talk.

Why is it communication companies are the worse offenders when it comes to customer service

Perhaps its not so good to talk after all, well at least to them. You first have to go through 5-6 menu options and when you do speak to someone you spend the next 30 minutes trying to communicate with some who's 2nd language clearly is English
  • BT are serial pests. Once you are with them they will hassle you forever.
I stopped using BT a couple of years ago and they ring me monthly without fail, sometimes more, despite me asking for them to remove my number and stop harrasing me, and they send me mail all the time.

  • They did the exact same thing to my dad who's 84, everytime i called their customer services dept (overseas call centre) they listened to my complaint then hung the phone up on me,they did this 4 times I was absolutely furious.

I had a similar problem with billing, We changed to sky in december for our broadband which resulted in a credit on my BT account, we kept the phoneline with bt and changed the bank details for the DD. We decided to chane the phone line over in july. too. That went fine, the final bill came with chrges till end of AUgust! My partner called them and they said it was because we had not cancelled friend and family? My partner said we asked for a final bill why would we think we would have to cancel that!. They sent a new bill, still the same advance charge till end august, This time I called, I was told this charge to the end of august was because we had a hub phone, I said we have not had broadband from you for over 7 months! ( and saved quite a bit of money ! ) he said he would sort it and send a new bill.

New bill correctly amended, but had a £7.50 charge for late payment! We always paid by DD so why they thought they had to do this I dont know. I ended up writing to customer services, ( paid the bill in full first ) And poured the whole saga out. Someone called within 2 days but my partner so annoyed he said he didnt want to talk to them, they sent a cheque for £7.50. NO apology.

My ,Mother in law has been disconnected 3 times by BT for non payment of bill, after some computer upgrad from BT sent her bills to the wrong address, she wrote many letters, she has alos moved to Sky.

Very poor customer service! If you get anywhere it will be through persitance and hard work!

I'm afraid your woes aren't unique.

It took me nine months to get a correct bill out of them (although they still owe me £12.50). I signed up for BT phone and broadband and was told I would get a £30 credit off my first bill, and I could have free BT 1571 (I had told the advisor I probably wouldn't make ANY calls, I have the line only for broadband).

First bill comes through, no £30 charge but instead a 'low usage fee' for 1571. Called them up and was told I would get the £30 credit and the £2.50 credited off my next bill, plus the charge for 1571 would be blocked.

3 months later bill comes through, the £2.50 is refunded but no sign of the £30. Phone up, get told the £30 would be refunded to my bank account, plus they would credit £10 to my BT account for a missed appointment. No refund comes through, so I call again and apparently it has instead been credited to my BT account.

The next bill arrives, the £30 is there but no sign of the £10 for the missed appointment, and !!!!!! me there is another charge for 1571. Another phone call is made, I am now told the 1571 charge can't be stopped, so I tell them to cancel the sodding service and refund me the money, which they agree to. They also say that the £10 credit was never approved but (after keeping me on hold for a bit) they agree to credit this. They re-issued the bill (having already debited the money) and it's finally correct! So now I have £12.50 credit in the kitty for next time.

Will they get my last bill right before my contract is up and I hightail it off to another provider? I wouldn't bet on it.

I've also had the misfortune of dealing with them on a business account as well, when there has been a similar farce except involving hundreds of pounds of charges. It wouldn't be so bad if you could just call them up and get it sorted, but it seems to involve getting lost in and getting cut off by their automated system, until after various attempts I eventually get through and... either get cut off or they don't do what they say they have.

But just think back to the Halcyon days of the GPO.

Then the government of the day "fixed" it for us.

    Now,some would say,we have worse..

But most people havent much of a clue what became of the GPO..

    Well we have Royal mail
    Parcelforce

    errr.....

    BT
    O2
    Openreach

plus a few more i cant think of..

So what does it all mean?? Well to use some key b*llsh*t bingo terminology..the businesses have been unbundled ,rationalized and now benefit from the positive synergies blah blah blah..

    Translation..
It got chopped up,sold off, asset stripped and became a machine for generating shareholder value at cost to customers and employees.

    Just like..
    British Rail
    CEGB
    British Gas Corporation

    and others
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Interesting rant. I disagree, and here is three reasons why:

    • The creation of Openreach now allows me to buy my broadband from Sky or 02 for less than a tenner a month. The seperation of "assets" in this case means when you buy broadband you only pay whats necessary to support.... not the costs of a behomoth corporate entity
    • The creation of Wholesale allows the post office, tesco, 02.. to name a few, to sell me a telephone line and calls at competetive rates. Competion lowers costs, and is good for the consumer.
    • BT is not purely generating short term share holder value. Its investing £b's profit this year and next in fibre to the cabinet (i.e developing assets.. hardly "stripping them"). Since I cant get virgin, i`m looking forward to getting 20mb speeds.

And allow me to super-summarise in case I used too much bingo terminolgy :)

Since seperation, my broadband speeds have trippled but I pay a 1/4 of what i used to

You may want to edit you OP to remove your name and the advisors name!

    they are very common names!!

And OP, I HATE BT too!!!
  • BT is quite simply the worst company I have ever dealt with, their customer service is diobolical. They are that bad that when I move house now part of the criteria of the new property has to be Cable available. I had a phone and Broadband Service with them that they disconnected for no reason, I couldn't even call off my landline because it was cut off and I had to call from my mobile which charged me 20 pence a minute. Over a few weeks I got passed to department time and time again with an average hold time of 20 minutes only to get there to be told I needed the department I was transferred to.

To cut a long story short I had to lodge a complaint with Offtel who gave me a number to the high priority complaints department who after another 2 weeks got my services back on, however they restarted my 12 month contract, gave me a new number.

Get this bit though the woman said because of your troubles we will give you £120 compensation on your bill. I though great, until the bill came and it had a reconnection fee of £120 on it. I immidiatly called back and asked where was my compensation, she said it was the reconnection fee. I said I shouldn't have needed reconnecting if it wasn't for your mistake so how is that any compensation??????

I eventually got £100 credit to the bill but I still lost out as I spent £130 on my mobile phone bill to them and at least 10 hours on the phone.

My advice is STEER WELL CLEAR

Yes - BT is the most disgusting, annoying, useless, incompetent, lying, deceitful company ever.

They are so annoying I cannot repeat the saga of incompetence as I'm still not compensated for their disaterous errors over 18 months ago, and I just get so angry about the whole thing & their attitude. They don't give a monkeys - they really don't. They just do not give a damn............
