I am pleased to give hairdressing help or advice, but a thank you doesn't go a miss.
    :D
  • Also, Blackberry only offer a 1 year warranty on their product, it's a 24 month contract and although Carphones insurance does cover for loss, theft, accidental damage and unauthorised calls, it won't cover you for a warranty fault outside of the 12 month warranty.

My 15 year old son is pestering me to sign him up for a 24 month contract with O2 for a Blackberry. On the surface it looks like a good deal at £15 a month with unlimited texts and a free device and, to be honest, I can't think of a reason why I shouldn't.

What could go wrong? We will buy insurance in case he loses the phone or has it stolen and as fas as I can see, the insurance will also cover any calls made by the thief after we report the loss.

I know there must be something I'm missing, can you tell me what it is?

    HI, just mentioning my experience...
My OH got contract phone for his son, he doesn't live with us so this way he can be in touch with him all the time.

His son is generally very good, but quite often he goes over his minutes or texts. Another problem is that phones do not last to young people. To be fair they don't last me 2 years!! I would not dream of signing up contract for 2 years. With me is more to do with boredom, but young people have boredom issue AND the way they treat the phones. It's not that they want to drop it, it just happens... And your insurance will not cover you for damage by carelesness....

My stepson is now mindering my OH for new phone for the past 8 months because he damaged his old one. We've told him that he is not due an upgrade until December and there is no way we are going to pay for new phone itself (once you get them used to nice phones, they will always want nice phones... phone he wants now is £300).

So my advice would be - I can see no reason why not get him contract phone - we now put a bar on DS's phone so he cannot go over minutes (just check your chosen network allows this), but in no way would I sign for 24 mths.

My SIM only deal is a 30 day contract so no long sign up.

And what about the phone? Second hand from Ebay?
Is that O2? And did you/or will you go through Quidco? Some good cashback to have through Quidco.
