Get over it and collect your 'own' bin..they tend to to get shuffled around in our street after collection...it's no biggie!0

Hmm I like the idea of a tracking device as it probably works out cheaper given that it costs £30 to replace a stolen bin (I looked into it when I thought the bin wasn't coming back!)
The tracking device idea was a tongue in cheek suggestion, however it would prove useful for retaliation purposes.Success and failure is determined by effort.0 -
Whilst I can see that it is annoying, I am not sure what criminal offence has been committed?
I would go down the route of working out who has put the rubbish in there, and putting said rubbish on the owners doorstep. I have had this problem with two neighbours, and the former ensured it never happened again. Ironically, had they asked me, I would have let them use the bin, as long as they left enough room for my things too!
ive done ,this the idiot left his personal details in the bin bag so i emptied it on his lovely clean door step and then put the adressed item [which was covered in god knows what] through his letter box with a little note telling him next time i will empty the entire contents of my bin on his door step !This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Interesting thread... In our old flat the business over the road would 'borrow space' in our bins, I returned it regularly but it didn't stop them. If we owned the house I would have done the chain and lock thing- then I would watch with interest whether they tried to break it! Good luck op.

I must admit that when we put our bins outside the house,I have both accidentally put a small bag of stuff in someone elses bin, in the dark, and had someone else put something in my bin that left it slightly ajar and caused it not to get emptied at all that week. In the first instance I had an irate neighbour on the doorstep thrusting some i/d into my hands in a very aggressive manner ,with a "I have caught you out" manner, just silly really, (she obviously thought it was deliberate, and it was a huge overreaction). It is entirely possible that the person who took the bin doesnt even realise what they have done.It is inconvenient, but it may be purely accidental.Don't assume its some conspiracy.leave a note on the persons bin to ask them to return it to you,or kidnap it yourself if you wish.0

We bought some large sticky numbers so we could personalise our wheelie bin. These are specifically made for wheelie bins and I've seen them in a number of charity and discount shops. We've also got a large sticker of a singing pig on ours which looks awful but should deter any would be bin thieves! The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us

I wondered that too, quite often people round our way will grab the wrong bin if they are in a rush etc. They'll only realise later and so will use it all week before putting it out for collection again when the rightful owner will get it back. Next door took our bin this week (and it's marked) but son noticed soon after and swapped them round.
It may not have been deliberate or malicious, all this talk of emptying the rubbish on someone's step is a bit OTT for a genuine mistake imo. Of course if they have nicked it knowingly, then that's different but I'm not sure how you could judge that after one incident?
If other bins have space in them, maybe ask the owners if you could stick a bag in each to help get rid off what you've been left with.Herman - MP for all!0
