PS3 Fighting games and kids

Having lost relatives in the wars (like so many I know) and visiting the graveyards in France I am finding those games a step too far. It is the call of duty game he is after and I'm really not keen. The other fighting ones I have a lot less problems with.
Any comments on the Assassins Creed game please?
Assassins creed does show people fighting with swords and stabbing, but in its defence evn on the PS3 it is clearly not real people. Very cartoonish. There is a story and puzzles to solve as well. Most of those you have to assasinate are "bad" people who kill innocents. However it may be you decide all of these type of games that portray killing are not for you.
I have seen many, many films some PG many 15 that have what I consider to be far more graphic scenes than in many of the computer games, but it is something you have to decide for you and your kids. Like another poster said they will seek it out at friends anyway. I also remember watching films such as Texas chainsaw, freddy, halloween etc sneakily at mates houses when in the early teens (probably from about 12 onwards). Most kids go through a faze where they like a bit of gore. Never affected me and to be honest I don't really care for horror much at all now lol. Rather have a bit of rom com.
I still think the most important thing is that children are not allowed to become introverted so that either games/films/mags whatever become their whole world.
Have a look on you tube and if he has a mate with a PS3 and some of these games perhaps you could go take a look. Many of the you tube shots will show the worst bits.
Good luck whatever you choose, BTW Wii sports resort is cool for the whole family-a good crimbo game to work off those callories

Having spoke to DS it would appear you could go around killing anyone, but then you tend to get caught by the guards etc in this game. The aim is to solve the puzzles, collect the clues and kill those the assasins instruct you to, and these are "bad" people who go around killing innocents etc."Overthinking every little thing

I would not let a 7yr old play any games that are not age appropriate, that is your guidline.
Games that he would probably like that are FUN and involve a certain amount of logic also are, The Ratchet & Clank series, Jak & Daxter. Also suitable to older kids a lot of Adults love these games too.
I would not let him play Assassins Creek, Call of Duty, Infamous,GTA. Not only are they over 18 he would not be able to complete them, they are difficult games , he would end up being very frustrated.
I suggest you read all the reviews of any games you are buying, get the gist of the storyline, weapons, and opinions., you will then have all the info you need to make an informed dicision. You live..You learn.:)0 -

Thanks Ali, you sum it up just as I would. I did what was suggested on here and talked to the people in gamestation and watched loads of clips on youtube first alone and then with DS2. He doesn't now want COD after seeing the clips - result. I am happy with AC2 due to all the things you mention above. Shame about the bad language really but DS3 was at the golf club yesterday and somebody said the F word right next to him there. They obviously know that is not appropriate and he took great delight in telling me so!
This has actually been a really positive experience as he has learnt about how I make decisions as an adult; the need to research; discussion, not giving in just to please somebody or because everybody else does something and most of all - start a thread on MSE! He has loved reading everybody's comments
Now trying to hunt down a good deal on AC2 :money:The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

I have no intention of my 7 year old playing any of these games:rolleyes: I was taking into account that I have a 7 year old in the house and the logistics of him not witnessing the game being played. He is more than happy on the wii and only goes on the PS2 on fifa. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
perhaps get your son to write a list of games he might like and pick from the more 'age appropriate' ones on the list?
hopefully you should find some suitable middle ground that way
PS if you're after a stocking filler game suitable for a 7 year old this one is supposed to be excellent, needs a low spec PC and is going for £4.26 (75% off digital download only - delivered by email) from the steam store for the next 5 hours

I'm 21 and love playing PS3 games such as Call of Duty and grand theft auto
Been playing them since I was about 14.
Its a great way to relieve stress and unwind after a day at work.
My girlfriend hates it though.
Not sure I would let a kid under 16 play these kind of games though.
Call of duty is pretty tame compared to grand theft auto.
GTA is ridiculously violent.
You can club an old woman to death in the street with a baseball bat.0 -
The kids gonna do it anyway whether you like it or not, I'd let them decide what they want to do. If you try and control them they'll end up hating you. I view parenthood as giving them enough rope to hang themselves with whilst being there to catch them when they do. Your values are not theres unless they choose them.0
