Aren't you thinking of tartar sauce, cream of tartar is a powder, I've got some in the cupboard been there ages can't remember what I bought it for, got a feeling you might mix it with bicarb to make baking powder. I'm sure someone will be on here soon to tell you.0 -
making playdough
I think hardpressed is right though, it's one of the ingredients for baking powder.0 -
Yes it's one of the ingreds in baking powder. I have got a funny feeling I used it years ago when making tablet or toffee, some kind of sweetie anyway, but don't take that as gospel - and for what reason, I don't know.
Think it can be used when making meringues too, keeps the volume in the mixture. Other than that, not a clue!0 -
I was about to put playdough tooOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

It goes along with bicarbonate of soda to make the raising agent in scones. These days most people used baking powder which is ready mixed in the right proportions.
Also soda bread - yummyLove living in a village in the country side0 -

Essential ingredient in gingerbread, as raising agent. Also for toffee, as mentioned before. Wouldn't be without it.
