School photographs

Just wondered, do you buy your kids' school photos every year?
I bought a set in nursery, then again in Reception class but not Yr 1.
DS has had his pic done (Yr2) the cheapest 'package' is £8.50 for one medium print which i think is shocking but then i'm tight
They're selling some acrylic block with the photo in for £90  If i was gonna spend that much on a picture i'd go get it done professionally not a quick one minute school one! They also charge £3.50 to get a copy sent to your mobile  I think i must be a complete scrooge because i could never justify doing that.
Feel obliged to buy one this year purely because i didn't last year, i might just buy the one print package and scan it to get free copies with Snapfish or someone if any family want it

Our eldest is 5 and we only missed 1 picture of him at school as we were abroad when the school photographer was in.
This year the school has got our son in the whole class photo, a individial photo and a special school photo with a few chosen pupils. We have spent £20 on the special photos and we have only got the price list of the individial pictures today so no doubt that we set us back another £20.
Was never this expensive when I was at school.I hate migraines.0 -
hun I totally agree the prices for school pics are horrendous - but if you do buy one print package dont tell anyone you are copying them!!! the photographer owns the copyright on the photos and you could be in serious trouble if they find out you copied them!0

Totally agree, I didn't get my kids school photos last year as tbh they were rubbish, but this year they had a joint one and two individual ones, the indivdual ones weren't very good but the joint one was lovely so I have bought that oneAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00

Probably highly illegal, but my mum just used to remove the "text' from across the sample picture in photoshop. She never bought another individual school photo after that, except the end of school picture we got in yr 11 with our whole year on it. The other thing she used to do was take a pic of us against the plain wall in our house, on school photo day, so you never have to buy the individual photo, but could maybe get the class ones from important years, like is this his last year at his primary?
We do have class pics of us every year from school, and even now I love looking back over them and looking at my bad haircuts, and coloured leggings! Eeek!0 -
TBH I do not find the cost too bad. I bought the special pack which contains 2 large, 1 medium and 4 pocket sized photos plus 4 book marks for £20. I usually give them away as part of xmas presents.
The photos are really cute of my daughter plus her toddler sister.0 -
I think i would depend on if it is a good photo or not, but yeah they can be expensive, but great to look back on when you are older.0

Is it bad that we practiced his smile for 2 days beforehand? :rotfl:
He's got the most gorgeous smile but for some reason the blimming photographers make them say things like smelly sausages and then take the picture so now he's got a half smile and his chin is sticking out - so no it's not the best pic ever but obvious still gorgeous cos it's my DS.0 -
We have to order ours now from photographer and pay postage, think it was £2.50 for them to be sent. School don't seem to get involved but no doubt take a good commissionJan Grocery challenge
Budget £350 - Spent £64.45 to date0 -
just stand your child in front of a plain wall and do it yourself. these photographers take all of 30 seconds to take these photos and they are not worth any sort of money let alone £20 as ours are costing.0

my parents never ever bought any of mine, not for money reasons but because they were awful and unflattering. unposed snaps of the kids being themselves are always better. don't feel guilty!!0
