Weekend or week day?0
-
if week day take piccadily line southbound/westbound to earls court change to the district line for west brompton- would be quickest
although i think some works are going on on the escalators at earls court at the mo, so maybe change a couple of stops earlier at south kensington
for the weekend check engineering works at tfl.gov.uk

Piccadilly is usually very busy however esp in zone 1- the circle line can be quieter and doing Circle or H&C to Edgware Road and changing to the District there can be a quieter journey. You can stay on the Circle to Gloucester Road, too and change there or indeed at High Street Kensington.
It is also one of the last times you can do that on the Circle line proper since that section is scrapped from 13th December and all journeys will need a change at Edgware Road.0 -
Based on my daily use of the tube:
- Avoid Piccadilly west bound as it has all the people going to Heathrow airport (lots of luggage)
- Avoid changing trains at Earls Court.
- Check weekend track closures: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/livetravelnews/realtime/tube/track-closures.pdf
Your route should be: Kings cross, take the victoria line southbound to victoria... change at victoria to district line and wait for a train going to wimbledon.

Consider the Transport for London website www.tfl.gov.uk . This has a journey planner facility. You can put in your specific time of departure when using the advanced options. You may be able to get some London public transport capability included with your train tickets.

The TfL journeyplanner is good - but it doesn't take into account things like luggage, walking within a station or traffic levels.0

Depends what trains you are going on. If you get on the Heathrow bound ones then you will tend to get people with lots of luggage there as the Uxbridge branch doesn't.newfoundglory wrote: »Based on my daily use of the tube:

Changing at Earls Court isn't that bad particularly on a Sunday.newfoundglory wrote: »- Avoid changing trains at Earls Court.
The Victoria line is actually worse than the Piccadilly in regards to how busy it is at all times of the day regardless of what day of the week it is. The trains are small so there is no where to stand with luggage or any form of bag there as the Piccardilly trains are designed for people with luggage so this is not a problem.newfoundglory wrote: »Your route should be: Kings cross, take the victoria line southbound to victoria... change at victoria to district line and wait for a train going to wimbledon.
Quickest route.
Also changing at Victoria is worse than changing at Earls Court due to having more tourists, who don't know where they are going.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Pic line trains (1973) are not designed for luggage, the rolling stock is only a couple of years older than the Vic stock. Very very old trains
Changing at Victoria is hell though, pretty much whenever there are more than a few people in the station. Lot's of tourists, and especially during rush hour as it's the intersectioninthe south between the Northern and Victoria lines.
Pretty much everything else has been covered. I would recommend the Picadilly line as you will avoid changing at victoria, and after a change at Earls Court it is aonly a short hop to your destination.0 -
Maybe but most of the Pic trains have been refurbished so that you can actually get on with them with luggage and have somewhere to put it without getting in people's way. (Mind you I only have taken the trains West bound from Holborn up to Uxbridge or Heathrow but tend to get off before then.)Pic line trains (1973) are not designed for luggage, the rolling stock is only a couple of years older than the Vic stock. I tend to stand/sit where people put their luggage on the Uxbridge bound trains as only the random person has bags.
The Vic line is not intended for people who have luggage which is annoying if you do have it as there is absolutely no where you can stand without the unknowing tripping over it.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Thanks Everybody. Interesting to see a difference of opinion even amongst regular tube users!!
Will decide on arrival I think, as no clear obvious best route.
Cheers!0
