Check urban myths (or email "tips") at www.snopes.com (and google them too) before forwarding or repeating them.

Agreed - snopes is everyone's friend.
And also, 99.9% of email "tips" will be false anyway, so rarely do they bear repeating. I'm surprised at the reference to Crimewatch though...unless the OP saw the beginning or the end of a 'do not believe this' segment or something.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

If you put your pin number in backwards it alerts the police straight away and they come and help you out, I seen this on crimewatch.

I don't really have any advice other than that

That's not advice as it is NONSENSE! Don't ever do this as it is sh*te advice! This has never, ever, ever, ever featured on Crimewatch.

Agreed, and my pin is the same either way round (and so is my mums - both issued by the bank)!

Or maybe that is why I seem to have a permanent police escort ... :p
    Gone ... or have I?

If you are forced to go to an ATM, just enter the PIN incorrectly 3 times, and hey presto!!! the machine retains your card, your assailants get no cash, and all you need to do is contact the Police, then get your bank to send you another card.

  • This is one reason I'm thankful that it's legal to carry pepper spray in Poland.

Some moron wants to hold you at knifepoint? No problem, just reach for your spray in your pocket and give him a nice long blast of the stuff.
    From Poland...with love.
