I have been working self employed for the last 4 months but have not registered yet, also I am a full time student too. I am wondering if it's too late an can i still do it for the last 4 months, I thought you could go back 3 months? Do i just adjust my invoices for this?
I need some help here, anything would be greatly appreciated!

Why haven't you registered? You'll be fined for not registering within 3 months, so do it now.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

The within three months rule was scrapped a little while ago. Now you have to tell them as SOON as you're self employed, no grace period. Tell them straight away, with good reason why you didn't tell them earlier. You never know, they might be sympathetic.
I found them really nice when I rang up about registering self employed. They're not there to catch you out or anything. Best thing to do is give them the exact, correct info they need, and you're fine.0 -
Ditto alfiesmum, they have always been very nice to me, and soooo helpful.
Give them a ring they are not the big bad wolves people think they are.
Good luckI am pleased to give hairdressing help or advice, but a thank you doesn't go a miss.

I have just registered online and put the date of my first bit of work at the end of July hopefully everything will be well, now in the process of filling out my national insurance form!0

i think I am now liable for a fine of a £100, oh well lesson learned! This is not good, I dont think this has been abolished, alfiesmum, where can I find info on the 3 month rule being scrapped?0

I had heard from the HMRC themselves that the 3 month rule had been scrapped..it was when I was doing their filing a self assessment course. Give them a ring..they are helpful and are nice.0

Sorry, I didn't say the fine had been abolished hun. I said the three month grace period was abolished. Meaning register as soon as you start or you'll be fined. I'm not sure where it is online but a google for self employed help ought to fetch something up. I'm the same a Horace, I was told over the phone by tax people themselves. One of the regular posters on here has also quoted it a few times. I can't remember who - sorry!0

No, you are 4 months outside that limit as you have been told that you have to tell them immediately.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
