Average Electric & Gas Usage

Sorry my mistake I meant to put HEATING = GAS :-) Silly me.
Having one of those days :-)0 -
Hi steveyg,
That would explain why your not on an economy 7 tariff for the electricity, the gas usage will increase once you start to use your heating.
I would still recommend speaking to E.ON about the electricity usage, take a weeks worth of readings and try and establish what is using so much.

Helena is right,
For a gas heated property where heating hasn't been used the gas readings make a lot of sense, however the electric readings are quite high, and something needs to be looked at.
Take up Helena's offer of speaking with their energy efficiency team and seeing if that consumption can be cut back - in most cases large savings can be made without too drastic a change in lifestyle.
In addition see if you cna take advantage of better tarriffs so that any consumption large or small is charged at the best possible rates.0 -
Electric shower? Tumble dryer? Do you have a back-up immersion switch on the boiler which has accidentally been left on?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

May I just ask about my usage to Helena please as it is on exactly the same subject only my Duel bill is £54 gas (I have gas central heating) and the rest of the £202 monthly direct debit is for electricity. I have a gas stove for the kettle no dishwasher no tumbledryer and no money!
please advise I'm out of my mind. I'm stuck and don't know what to do to check if someone else is using my electric from my 3 bedroomed terrace. Its not me! New to Eon as was with npower who said they wouldn't check my meter and I must be just a large consumer. When they wanted to put the DD up to £280 a month I switched to another company (Eon) although if it is the meter, it will still be big. My sister has a five bedroomed house with plenty of gadgets and her electricity is less than mine.
Warmfront say that I am very efficient with all my bulbs, insulation and new efficient boiler etc, I don't understand what I can do except sit in the dark and put my fridge food in the cold garden for the winter!
Many thanks0 -

Hi debbie :hello:
I would give you similar advice really, take meter readings for a week and contact the energy efficiency department, they will be able to look at your consumption.
Are all of your meter readings accurate?
Has the account been estimated in the past which has produced a catch up bill?
Is there a debt on the account that the Direct Debit is including?
I would look at everything with E.ON before requesting a check meter, as you will be charged for this if there is nothing wrong with the meter.
Remember to also ask about tariff's, make sure your on the best one for you.

A fridge, lighting, shower and televisions do not cost £230 per month. If you really can not think what is using the power (and the meter readings do suggest you are using £54 per week) then you should call an electrician for advice. Or nPower could have and Eon will check the meter for you. Of course you have to pay for this and it will only be refunded if the meter is faulty - that is only sensible. With the number of people posting here who do not understand their bills or do not read their meters or do not understand direct debits it would be crazy to let people have meters checked without charging a fee.0 -
Thanks for the advice I will keep an eye on the readings. I would think that the £54 for the gas part of the bill will go up as the heating goes on but thats expected for the season. I will take a reading every week and may actually turn everything off at the same time and see what happens to the meter. There are no outstanding and the figures are right, its just difficult to think how the amount gets to that much. As I said I have moved to Eon. Now moving to Eon I have online account and the latest online gives the dates and amounts:
from 22/7 - 23/10:
electric -
130 normal primary
1675 normal secondary
=1805
= £198.99
Direct debit £202.00 per month (prob from npower say so as this is the 1st with Eon)
gas £56.31 (as expected)
many thanks0 -

Am I missing something here?
Debs and Steve are talking about QUARTERLY bills, so if Debs is using £198.99 per quarter, why are they trying to take £202 per MONTH.....:eek:Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -

Are these readings for your electricity actual or estimated? That works out to about 20KWH per day, which is high but not impossible. Do you have an electrically heated power shower, if so how many minutes per day is it used in total? Do you have an immersion switch on your gas boiler that has accidentally been left on?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
