How perfect should a skim finish be?

Options
I got my whole kitchen skimmed last week and my husband have given it a couple of coats of kitchen and bathroom paint. With the under counter lighting EVERY imperfection is shown and to be honest Im not very pleased, in one area there are visable bumps and also around the newly fitted sockets. Should it be perfect or am I expecting to much

  • My brother did mine and painted too, no bumps or lumps smooth as a baby's bum.

Should be perfect, our attic was plastered by an average builder and it was a disaster so i paid to have it all skimmed over and now it is perfect.
  • id expect it to be like glass. around the sockets you sometimes get a wee bit of imperfections depending if the faces were removed or not

lumps and bumps dosent sound good though

Should be like a wedding cake - perfect. It's quite a skill, that the person doing it makes it look like a doddle, but it isn't. It sounds like your plasterer wasn't good at it.

You could expect a few imperfections if a shiny/eggshell paint has been used. But should look perfect if matt paint.

as a time served plasterer myself ( not any more tho) the finishe should be of glass like to the touch, the plaster should never have to be sanded between coats or on the final finished coat, all the smoothing is done on each coat with the steel float and water, final coat is then polished using the same technique as the plaster is curing, the only imperfections you may get is the odd trowel mark where you have polished using the water, no lumps or bumps tho EVER.... get the idle git back to finish it and do a proper job

Why is it relevant what country they're from?

    Communication could be a problem?

It could well be relevant as Iraqi plasterers may well not be skilled or trained in using our " pink " plaster, I'm fairly sure that it is unique to the UK.
