Financial help with decorating for disabled person ???

Hi everyone.

Can anyone help please?

I'm based in Hertfordshire and am registered disabled (diagnosed spinal difficulties and another disability too).

I have a child who has a disability too.

Neither of us receive DLA.

I survive on benefits, but have to live "hand to mouth" basically.

My (Housing Association) house DESPERATELY needs decorating, but:

1. I can't afford to even buy the paint to do so
2. I would have considerable difficulties painting it

Can anyone give me answers to the following thoughts please? :-

1. Can I get a grant from anywhere please for the cost of the paint / materials ?
2. Can I, maybe, get a grant for someone to do the work for me please?

Any responses / experiences would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

    KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

I dont know your reasons why you havent claimed DLA and you say you are short of money. You need to claim DLA to help you have a normal life, there is nothing wrong with claiming DLA. If you need help there are organizations who will help you

Your child might be able to claim too

    Best of luck

As you are registered disabled, if you have a car do you have a blue badge? I thought to get a blue badge you needed to be in receipt of DLA. I have just applied for a blue badge for my husband and I'm sure it said on the form you must be in receipt of DLA (can't check, form has been returned). Anyway, that might not be relevant.

There may be charities that can help. Ever seen The Secret Millionaire? It's amazing what charities they can find. Google to see if there's anything in your area. Or contact the CAB to see if they know of anything. You could also look at this thread.

You dont strictly need to get higher rate DLA for blue badge Tomsmum, you automatically qualify if only higher mobility rate, but even if you dont get dla you can get a blue badge if you can provide proof of eligibility but its at the discretion of your council

Maybe social services can help with assistance for grants or know someone who can do this

Thanks Savemoney. I couldn't remember, only ever seen the form once and it got sent off last week. Also we're in Wales so possibly different from other parts of the country.

I just picked up on the DLA thing from your answer to the OP as when I read their post I wondered why they weren't in receipt of DLA.

I wondered that too, maybe they are very proud. But no stigma to claim something they are entitled too after all it suppose to help them have a normal life any reasonable person shouldn't resent those who legitimately claim for help to get around and have a normal life

    Registering as a disabled person

If your disability is 'substantial and permanent', you can register as a disabled person with your local council.
It is not necessary to register to get local council services, but it may help in getting concessions such as reduced fares for public transport. It should also help your local council plan their services.
Your local social services department should be able to help you complete the registration form if necessary.

from the govs own website. it appears to be a voluntary thing to maybe get reduced fares on buses?
im not even sure that all local councils do it?
    Get some gorm.

For paint and materials you could apply on the following link, there are also other groups listed who may do community work!

Not true. My husband was "registered disabled" last year; the council gave him a "disabled" card -- NOT a blue badge, which he also has..
