eBay Pick Up

I like meeting people as well, which is why I have several outside the house jobs as well as ebay and Amazon. For me it is easier to post items as I go to the PO every day anyway and it is quicker to take one more package than it is to sit in and wait for someone to arrive.
If people are buying something bulky from me then I'm happy to make the time for collection, for most of my usual items that fit into a silver packing bag, then no, it isn't worth the extra time it takes me to offer collection.

Paypal protection is an interesting one.
I had two buyers pay by paypal then pick the item up in person.
I drew up a receipt for them to sign that is worded along these lines:
RECEIPT FOR COLECTION OF E BAY ITEM
Received from Mr XXXX XXXXXX
(Item description and E Bay Listing Number)
Collected in good order on dd/mm/yy
Item is as described within listing
Paid for by paypal £xx
Buyer username xxxxxxx
Signed buyer............................
Name .....................................
Hopefully such a document would be enough to dissuade anyone saying they had not received the item after collecting it, and if they do then I have some evidence to suggest otherwise.
As regards personal callers, some are unavoidable depending on what you sell. We bought a £500 spiral staircase that weighs around 300kg Collection was our only option!
The gent who was selling it was 80 odd if only by a day. He and his wife were redeveloping their property for the 2nd time in 20 years plus. I was amaized at how much energy this gent had. They had got their builder to take the staircase out of the stairwell and had it all stored in an outbuilding.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
HugoSP, you are definitely NOT covered with a home made receipt. Read the paypal terms and conditions as they are very clear about proof of delivery requirements:

I like paypal, I use it all the time but I would never ever consider taking it on a collected item unless I was prepared to accept the loss should it go pear shaped.
Where's Bleugh when I need him????

When I buy something from Ebay & I see that it is less than 5 miles from me then I will always ask the seller if I can collect. If they say no, I don't bid as I don't trust them.
Why don't you trust someone who says no to a stranger pitching up on their doorstep?? Maybe the seller is an old person who is wary of people coming to their house or maybe the seller just isn't comfortable with strangers knocking on their door. I know if someone wanted to collect from our house I wouldn't want them to, I'd ask them to meet elsewhere.
I'm at home all day and I won't answer my door if I can't see who it is on the camera above the door. Iv'e always been paranoid with strangers coming to my house but that doesn't make me un-trustworthy.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

I think you are being a bit too careful there. I sell on eBay quite a bit, but if someone asked to collect an item from me I would decline on the grounds of safety and inconvience. But what does this have to do with my trustworthyness?

I state in my auctions that I wouldn't mind if anyone wanted to pick up goods from my house.....only thing is I live so far from anything or anyone that no-one's taken me up on it yet!

I have had a few people collect from me. I am not too bothered, but I am the one that stipulates the date and time range. I do sell a few higher value items on ebay and I think it has got people to bid on my item when they might not have had they not been able to collect.0

Soo
hehe, thanks
basically Hugo, if you can not provide paypal with a tracking number that paypal can check online, then the buyer can simply say 'I never received the item'
paypal WILL refund the buyer in full, regardless of your plea 'honest guv, he picked it up, look, he signed this'
law courts may see it in a diffent light, but paypal states, that you MUST provide an online trackable number to be covered as a seller
read all those links at https://www.bleugh.co.uk/paypal, you'll see that some bloke accepted about 2.5k for his car by paypal. someone picked it up, a few days later he got a chargeback, he's now minus his car AND his money
now, don't come back asking for more advice if you ignore that lot, state on your auctions "LOCAL PICKUP ACCEPTED FOR CASH PAYMENTS OR CHEQUES SENT AND CLEARED IN ADVANCE"money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

I just had someone pick something up from me i just sold on ebay. I dont see a problem with it, it is no different to listing something in the local sorner shop or paper. But i alsways make sure they pick up during the day or early evening, and my neaigbours or someone is around (just in case lol)0
