eBay Pick Up

I know we give out our address as sellers to buyers but i have a request from a buyer to pick up one of my items if she buys it as she lives close. I have told her that i can't accept paypal as wont be covered by seller protection policy if she collects it.
My question i guess is, is it safe to have her turn up on my doorstep? or should i deliver it to her?

People often have people visiting them to pick up items, mainly big stuff, cars and all that. My advise would be to meet them in a public place, town centre etc. Although if this item is like a fridge that won't be possible.

Collection is completely up to you. If you don't offer it in the auction then you are in no way obliged to say yes, if you prefer not to have a stranger turn up then just explain politely that you will post the item as per the auction.
As for meeting elsewhere, it would probably be simpler just to post the thing if it is small enough rather than hang around waiting for someone to show.
I have allowed collection in the past, but strictly on my terms and at the time I suggest, if that doesn't suit my buyer then tough, I'll post it.

I'm amazed when people ask to collect when the p&p charges would be less than petrol costs.
I've never refused collection but they do cheese me off sometimes. This week-end someone called to collect an item with no prior arrangement.0 -
Yes i dont really mind as u say as long as its at a convinient time, and as its a very small & light item postage is only £1 recorded most items i post seem to get to their destination the next day anyway... think she might be an akward one anyway as she was asking specifics about the item which were already detailed in the description....i seem to be getting all the annoying ones on ebay this week:rolleyes: Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.:j0

I'd ask for cash when they pick it up to save on Paypal fees.
I wouldnt worry much about a chargeback if they must use Paypal, its not likely being low value, and not much of a loss if it actually did happen.0 -
This has come up a few times before on this board.
I've accepted pick up and dropped stuff off to people, especially when its a bigger item. Often its been a case of cash on delivery, however sometimes the buyer has paid via paypal first.
I personally don't see it as a problem, but it is really down to you.
For me its a case of saving on paypal fees and for the buyer its a case of saving on postage costs."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
I have no problem in buyers collecting items, since I make no profit from p&p.
When I buy something from Ebay & I see that it is less than 5 miles from me then I will always ask the seller if I can collect. If they say no, I don't bid as I don't trust them.0 -
For me the advantage of local pickup is having the item there and then, and not having to worry that it's gone wayward in the postal system.
Personally I like meeting other people.
There's this perculiar belief in society today that everyone wants to be your best buddy and come round for tea once a week, aside from raping you on the occasion. This just isn't the case, not for us 'normal' balanced ones anyway.
Meet people, it's good for you.
