I think some of the responses here are a bit hard on the OP. Yes, there are too many unemployed new graduates right now, but they are part of the system that is fed to youngsters that they must get a degree to get on these days. They weren't expecting to be in this situation when they graduated.

JSA states that in the first three months job-seekers can restrict there search to jobs in their specialist area, as the OP is a new graduate this could mean graduate positions - if unsuccessful after 3 months then they need to widen their search to anything they can do. It sounds like OP is very motivated to get a job and has already widened their search further.

If they have been asked to apply for positions they don't feel able to do, they should discuss this with the job centre adviser - it may well be he doesn't understand the roles well and he would be suitable or if not maybe they can agree three other positions he can make applications too. It's just a case of speaking up and demonstrating they are making every effort to get a job.

I have a 3 month review about a month ago now which Im guessing was the same thing you had. I also sign on weekly now but I got told it was for 6 weeks only. I havn't finished the weekly sign ons yet so I know it wasnt that long ago I had it. I also have finished uni a few month ago with a degree so I think they just do it to everyone. Maybe only uni leavers that get it Im not sure. I did get the same thing though and basicly go weekly now but nothing else has changed. You don't have to apply to anything they give you. When I had my review she looked and looked til she could find something that she could get me to apply to. Everything wanted experience (including all the retail jobs she found) and the ones that didn't I had already applied to. In the end I just took one off her which I knew I wasn't going to be able to do and she seemed happy then. I did tell her I couldn't but would look into it anyway which made her happy. They never ask you about anything they print you off anyway. At least mine never have but then I do apply to loads of jobs every week lately (just christmas jobs because theres not much else) so they've been happy with that.

Is it possible for you to register with temping agencies? If you have been to uni then you must be proficient in using word, excel etc and office based things? If you could get temping work, and work in various companies, then it gives you experience, a variety of working environments to try out and you can still be looking for permanent work at the same time - maybe one of the temp jobs would become permanent, or the agency may find a suitable permanent job for you?

What area of work are you looking to go into? If you could give a bit of background info there maybe someone on here that could give a some other ideas.

    Good luck
