I'd take the chipsaway route personally.

The alternative is the builder tells you to !!!!off, and you have to take him to court. At which point he lies, and says he had nothing to do with it.

We've had chipsaway out to repair some paintwork damage on a bonnet and side panel and the results were less than impressive and very noticeable. Certainly not what we were led to expect. There is no way I would accept this type of repair on a 2 year old car.

If you are thinking about it, I strongly advise you to ask to see some examples of the chipsaway person's work first.

I have a small ding/scratch on my bonnet and with mates rates it will cost me over £250. Bonnets are the most difficult things to paint.

your mates are rubbish! mates rates for me is roughly £50 per panel and a good job, ive just had a few bits done to my focus, front and rear bumpers and a few bits on both front doors £200 for the lot. he has made a very good job of it too.

Get it fixed properly by a VW approved body shop - if you don't that could void the anti-corrosion warranty and that could be trouble.

I expect it's already been sorted by now - 8 months later!
