Not sure how to handle this.

People say stupid things and teachers and heads are not immune from that.
If the lad is 15 and believes he is the correct weight for his age and height I'm not sure why he didn't say to himself "Jeez, head's a total pillock" and go merrily on his way.
Thats the reason why I didnt want to call Errata, but I realise now that he is really upset about it. He said he thought that comments about his weight had stopped a long time ago, and its hit a nerve Im afraid .0 -
OK, the facts. How tall is he and how much does he weigh? So we can calculate his Body Mass Index. I think there is a difference in how you handle the situation according to whether he is overweight or not.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. How did you get on Mandi?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
What does it matter how tall he is and how much he weighs??? The fact is the head teacher shouldn't make such a comment it's non of his business he should keep his big fat nose out. He's bloody lucky I'm not a pupil of his or i'd of told him to get his head out of his backside!
I think you should speak to the head teacher and tell him he either apologises or you will go to the school governers.

Yes, because that is the best way of dealing with people who you have to work with "One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

Perhaps if the schools let them play 'proper' sports the kids might actually be a healthy weight.
You aren't going to lose weight or build stamina and muscle by playing non-competitive and non-contact sports!0 -

My old Gym teacher makes this head look like a model of diplomacy!, he was american ex vietnam war vet, and would berate the fat kids in the class with glee.
His fave sayings were:
Your momma feeds you too much
You look like the back of a chevy
Run fat boy run
Lard arris etc etc
He finally got fired after telling us his very graphic and gruesome war stories, some of the more sensitive boys parents complained that his stories was giving them nightmares.0 -

Teachers can and do make insensitive comments and if they hurt a child they do need to be told about it. Not all guns blazing, but calmly and potely.
One of my sons had really bad warts, all over his hands, and on his face, in his ears, and we did our best to convince him that evryone was not always staring and making comments about them. His friends never mentioned them, and he got no teasing or name calling from any of the kids. He was undergoing intensive laser treatment (which cost a fortune) and then one long term supply teacher made a really insensitive comment about his appearance, and grilled him about whether we been to the doctor about it, and what treatment had he had. The clear implication was that we were not doing enough. My son was mortified and so upset, that one remark undid all our good work. I was furious and rang the school immediately, the Head was mortified too, she knew all the story.
The teacher apologised to my son, but the damage had been done really. Many of us have things about our appearance which if focussed on will hit a nerve, kids are no different. I work with teenagers and we have a joke occasionally, but never at their expense, and I would never refer negatively to a physical characteristic.
I hope the Op can resolve the issue, the Head should apologise and think more deeply next time before he opens his mouth to make a negative comment about appearance.0 -
