I'm also having a similar problem with my 53 reg clio 1.2 16v, and from what I've read its a very common problem with clios. Check out this thread for possible causes/solutions: http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=20950

My cars been in the garage all this week but they've not been able to fix it. Fault code is P0225. They've tried the throttle pedal assembly, removed security box, replaced loom from throttle body to ECU, changed over throttle body and crank angle sensor - all failed to rectify the fault. They also took the ECU to Renault dealer and had them check it out and reported no fault. They now suspect that it could be the loom from the pedal to the ECU but cannot be certain. According to the guy they spoke to at the main dealer the loom alone costs £400-£500 but he suggested making your own up instead. Anyone know a Renault specialist in Derby that would be capable of diagnosing the suggested wiring loom? I'd hate to have that changed out and find there's nothing wrong with it!

If I were you I'd check the connectors at the end of the loom and at any junction boxes there may be along the way. It would be unusual for the actual wire to brake (although it is possible) - normally this sort of thing is a connector issue.
  • You can get up to speed, but there just doesn't appear to be any power going through to the engine?

Sounds like ignition coil problem. Common with Renaults (i have one...).

    It's possible.
  • I think the top speed I've got out of it is 50 mph. Basically it wont rev much beyond 2500rpm, so as you can imagine getting up to speed takes forever when you have to change gear so low down in the rev range. This is apparently to protect the engine. Other than being constantly in limp mode, the car is fine. No starting problems, no random cutting out, nothing. The fault just appeared completely out of the blue!

The main loom? Or just the engine loom? Either way, if the guy thinks it's so easy tell him to make one up for you!

In the meantime, I suggest you find another garage.

I'm not sure on the different looms, but I've had the ECU to throttle body loom replaced already due to damage caused by the poorly designed security box that sits over the ECU. The other loom they are suggesting to replace is from the ECU to the pedals. Apparently there are six wires but its a !!!!!! of a job to do as you have to take the whole dash out to gain access.
