I have an Advent laptop that is less than a year old and one of the hinges has broken, which means that i cant close it. I've actually mentioned it here (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=26988085#post26988085 ) as i had a question about the receipt.
I need to contact them somehow as i'm unsure if the warranty will cover this but i cant find out where to contact them. I dont have a copy of the receipt as it was a present and they now cant find it.
I did read on one site that thetechguys deal with all advent support. Does anyone know if this is true or how i get hold of them? They dont seem to have a website of their own

Advent are a brand sold by Dixons/Currys so try there to get the hinge repaired. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Thanks! I phoned curry's and they were very helpful. They even checked their system to confirm it was bought and paid for. They said they'll have a look at it to assess if it is a manufacturing defect or if they think i dropped it. I really hope they dont end up thinking that. It just started creaking one day and then finally made a big snap sound. He said it could end up costing around £200 if i'm not covered.
I hope they believe me0 -
I think they would have problems asserting that you dropped it if there are no scuff marks on the case or hinge! Fingers crossed for you, but do point this out to them.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

Thanks yes thats an idea. I'm pretty sure there are no marks on it at all (i'm not at home at the mo), so i can be positive about that0

Well i am taking it into a Currys store on Monday so they can send it away to be looked at. I've taken pics of the affected area, and i was right, there are no scuff marks or signs of damage so here's hoping0

Well DSG get some pretty poor press at times but I think this is good customer service.
Hope they continue being so reasonable.0 -

I hope you backed up your data before leaving it there then. PCW/Currys have a habit of losing data, even when the repair has nothing to do with the hard drive!
'We've fixed the hinge madam, and we thought we'd reinstall your OS at the same time-no charge!'No free lunch, and no free laptop0
