Broadband cancelled, but service still active.

Has anyone encountered this? I requested a cancellation from my ADSL provider to move over to cable broadband. The BT number was ported over, but we still get a dial-tone and the ADSL service is still running. I know ADSL providers can be a bit slow as disconnections, but its been almost 3 weeks since the cancellation.
Just wanted to hear other peoples experience, if this has happened to you, what did you do? Did you notify the relevant service providers or keep quiet, waiting for the disconnect to happen? I'm inclined to wait for the disconnection as I now have two internet connections but only paying for one.

You may think you are only paying for one, but if the service is still being provided they may still bill you.
Did you cancel BT and your old ISP yourself or leave it to Virgin?
If the later I'd get back on to your former suppliers. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I never take anything for granted so made sure I notified all parties taking into account any notice periods that may apply to minimum extra payments for used time.
Below are rough dates and events.
1. Ordered Virgin on 20 August requested installation on 3 October.
2. Contacted Sky BB on 23 September to cancel services. Notified BT of my intentions to move to Virgin, but couldn't cancellation until my contract was up on the 12 October.
3. Sky BB services were cancelled and billed up to 23 October (1 months notice).
4. Requested BT number port on 16 October, to be actioned on 9th November.
5. Have checked all bills and the relevant credits and cancellation dates appear correct.
So based on the above events, everything looks in order and adequate notice was given to all parties. BT line is still active but can't dial in or out as expected. But Sky BB is also still working...this could also be because the modem hasn't been reset since. Not sure if that would affect it.
I doubt they would be able to retrospectively charge me for any usage of the broadband after the termination date based on their own mistakes. Its all logged on their system and their billing.
Not much point in rocking the boat I guess.

When BT disconnect you can still hear a dial tone... that is what needs to be there for a re-connection in the future to be free of charge you will not be getting billed for it.0

MrTom21 - Excellent...I didn't know that. That would come in handy if we were ever to move back to BT. I wasn't too keen on the reconnection charges I've been hearing about on the board.0
