Wow nnw I just read the thread and felt coompelled to post something to support the girl and her dad. The school and the teacher concerned have acted atrociously and should be ashamed of themselves.

Jyst had dinner so I am now warm, happy and full up just going to have a quick look see to find comps missed this afternoon then I will be chillin out to watch the tv awards thingy on the telly.
If at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.

I'm gonna have a moan please bear with me.

As I think most of you know, I play trombone in a brass band and have done since I was about 11. About this time last year our musical director retired and someone else took his place. I was always worried about this as we all know the new MD well and he has had a bit of a temper problem in the past - he's a business man and we were all concerned he would run the band like that and it would lose its fun.

Actually things have been fine. He does run the band differently and there are somethings I don't like about his leadership style, but it has been fine and there have been other things I have preferred if you get me. Until this week.

On Sunday after we had been playing he came over and asked me if I would move positions. A good friend who plays tuba has broken her ankle badly and has had to have it pinned. She is struggling to play her tuba because of it and in any case, her seat is up a couple of very awkward steps. She is also a very good trombone player so the MD was suggesting she joined my section until she was able to put weight on her foot again (a couple of months at least). Fine I thought. But it turns out to do this she's going in the first seat and I'm being put down on bass trombone - which might aswell be a completely different instrument in a different clef and key etc. I was a little annoyed but when I thought about it I decided it would actually be a good challenge, help me out with my low notes which are my weekest, and give my brain something to think about to improve my playing.

But yesterday and today the MD has been really horrible, nasty even. Not to me but someone else - he has made her cry (she is a very strong person) and I'm worried the old termper is about to show again and we're going to have problems in practice on Thursday night. I'm worried because I'm going to be in an unfamiliar seat, playing an unfamiliar part (sight reading everything) and basically I'm going to be a bit carp coz it'll be like learning something brand new, and I'm worried it's gonna be me who gets the brunt of his moods.

Those of you who know me know I get very anxious and emotional and the last thing I want is to cry in a practise. My stomach hurts worrying about it and I don't want to go, apart from to play my trombone which I love doing. I'm tempted to throw a sickie but that's just silly. If he does get all mardy someone will stand up for me right? Coz I can't do it myself.

I'm sorry for the long story and I know it probably makes no sense to you but I love the fact I have this little box at the bottom of this page to type in my thoughts and know they'll be read by someone - kind of like getting them off my chest. It's nothing like what many of you are going through I know.

    Thanks xxx

    :hello: Zoe,

Just go and try your best at it with it being a new instrument and piece to learn,I am sure you will be fine,I am sure the other members will support you,I get upset very easily over certain situations and I can also misunderstand stuff as well and think things are aimed at me which are not.Once discussed then I am fine and its forgotten completely.
