I wish I knew where the belief that you can't freeze certain things comes from. I'm constantly amazed by how many people believe food will go off in the freezer or that preserves need to be stored in the fridge.
My guess is they're read it on the back of the packaging, nearly every jar or pack now says "once open refridgerate and eat within 3 days".

People seem unable to use their own common sense nowadays and rely on manufacturers to tell them what to do. The one that always amazes me is the shampoo bottle that says "rinse & repeat", if you need to wash twice either your hair is really dirty or the shampoo isn't good enough.

Goodness knows how the human race survived without fridges, freezers and labelling.

My oh mam did a business degree in marketing and apparently if a bottle is labeled "rinse & repeat" it actually will sell more, can't remember why she said it sold more, I just think some people are crazy.

Have people become so blinkered by sell by dates and kitchen gadgetry that they no longer know anything about what they consume?

    In a word "yes"!

My DS (age 10) told me last week that people in his class are scared of eating food which is past its date. My children know that dates are only a guideline (it's been drummed into them :rotfl:)

That's a clever marketing ploy - anyone stupid enough to do that ends up buying twice as much.

Of course you can freeze cooked meat ;)

    Hi,

Just for the avoidance of doubt, if the meat has been frozen raw, defrosted and cooked, then frozen, it would still be OK to eat once defrosted and re-heated?

I presume that once something is cooked and defrosted, it should not be re-frozen, though.

    Thanks.

  • That's right Bean Counter, you've got it. Once the food in question has changed state,i.e. raw and cooked, the process can begin again, but not repeated in the same state.

Mind you, the thought of a frozen and reheated cooked burger (a bit dry as someone else pointed out) doesn't sound that appealing so I would have broken it up so it turned back into mince and made spag bol, cottage pie or the like out of it.

Because it gets used up faster if you use twice as much

Yes Bean Counter as Windowshopper says freeze once raw and once cooked;)

Thanks for that. I'd never been quite sure enough to try it out in practice. Now I can freeze in confidence!

I might not have even frozen the left over burgers or sausages, depending on quantity. Just popped them in the fridge and guess what's for lunch the next day? Kind of thing I do all the time. No-one's died yet.
