We shouldn't be incentivising people like Karen Matthews to have 7 children by 5 different fathers.
I agree. That sort of output should really be up for some sort of sponsorship deal.

I didn`t say that people with genuine disabilities should live on a pittance. I think you misunderstood the point of my op. I said life style choices.

I don't think I misunderstood any of your posts. My point is a clear one - there but for the grace of God (or a kind relative) go you. Reflect on that.

It's naive in the extreme not to accept that if more children didn't also = more benefits, less (unwanted) children would be born in the first place, as people who view children just as a meal ticket would cease to have them.

So what do you think we should do CarolT? Just leave kids languishing in poverty to punish them for the "sins" of their parents?

Many are being punished quite severely enough by the misfortune of having the parents they do. Throwing money at such parents doesn't alleviate the poverty of their children one bit.

Sorry but are you totally thick or just trying to wind me up?

Leaving children in poverty helps no-one. children have no choice about the circumstances they are born into.

And simply throwing money at the parents won't sort out poverty either.

No - you definitely did misunderstand my post.

My point was that those same children would not have been born if the policies we have had not existed.

If we ended the policy tomorrow, we would be reducing the number of miserable, unwanted children born to mothers like this:

Blimey, I went into shock at getting pregnant with my 3rd....14? Eeeekkk!

The thought of being pregnant now gives me the shivers, so glad it is not possible.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
