Kitchen Design

My parents house has no access to the garden from the front of the house and like your original version (with the bigger kitchen) they too have to go through the kitchen with everything!
So, having lived with them in this house which they have had for 27 years now I would say don't do it. I think that option 3 is the best option. There will be more times than you can currently think of when this will be an issue for you. Even replacing double glazing was a problem for them as everything had to be hauled through the kitchen. They would love to have their garden landscaped and a conservatory fitted to the rear of the property but can not face the hassle. Also wheeling through rubbish in a wheel barrow when my Dad had a clear out resulted in him cracking a load of the tiles in the kitchen area.
If you can leave your access away from your kitchen.
Having lived there I would not buy a house with this design - if that is a consideration for you.0 -
Thanks MummyJo very interesting.
It's intersting that the people who have lived in a similar house all say option 3 (with the studded wall / utility).
We will be wanting quite a bit of work done in the garden similar to what you mention
The doors will definetly be put to the right to allow room for a studded wall.
I can think about the studded wall because it's not a massive job to put one up at a later date if we leave room for one.0
