  • How old is your son? Are the state schools in your area that bad that only private will do?

    To be honest I think you need to look at this very carefully - if money is tight, even with help with the fees could you manage the other extras?

  • My parents would have liked to have sent me to private school - but they couldn't afford it - so I didn't go! :-)

    :Dhi thanks for replying so quickly, my son is 3 and due to start nursery in january, my daughter is 12 and at the girls high school but she is in receipt of a bursery but as i said this is not available for the boys nursery or junior school, all the extras will cost a fortune if my daughters school is anything to go on (uniform is £500 but they have a nearly new shop,thank goodness) i live in an inner city area at the mo with awful schools nearby and am looking into moving area as i only rent, thanks again

    If I were you I would look at renting near a better school in that case. It will save you a fortune! There are some lovely schools out there! PS £500 for uniform - wow! x

    When i was younger i was due to start at private school. My parents always wanted the best. but they then looked at the local school and realised to offered pretty much the same as the private school. so i went there instead.

    My hubby was private school educated tho.

    I;m not sure there are any schemes around, would it be worht writing to the school to ask ?

    My husband was at private school boy and I spent the last few years in a fee paying school too - and if we can afford it then our daughter will be going to a private style school (if it's still there - we want her to go to my old school but it's under threat...)
    Thankfully there is no uniform at my old school so at least we'll save on that lol! But ultimately I know we can afford to send her to my school - because it won't be much more expensive than her day care as a baby with the child minder :)

    My hubbies mother on the other hand worked ALL hours to pay for him to go to a private school and to still clothe and feed him and his sister. I guess if you really want him in a private school then you need to start saving and working out how much you need to have put by...
    Good luck

    There seems to be a few schemes for private school age kids of all ages - have a look at this site;

    DD started in a State secondary school in September.
    We must have spent near that amount to kit her out; the kilt, only available in John Lewis are £50 each + £10 to take them in...:eek:
    2 of those, a pair of trousers for winter, 2 jumpers (£35 each), blazer, sports kit and sports equipment...It adds up very quickly.
