O2 broadband Tech Support on the decline?

Sorry but I think this is rubbish.

I choose O2 over Be mainly because the reviews and feedback from everywhere I looked (including MSE) showed even slightly higher ratings for O2. This plus the low cost and good cashback/offers made me decide to go with them.

You are the first person who is saying (or rather implying) that O2's customer service is not very good.

It matters not what you think. It is important what is true.

Call O2 support and ask them a technical question. They will have no clue. Just a call centre working from a script.

Call BE, connect with their Tech Support and do the same. Completely different level of understanding. Embarrassingly so for O2 UK based support, as BE Tech support are based in Bulgaria.

I know about the standard of tech support, because I have been with both of them for a fair amount of time.

Have you..... or are you just conjecturing?

O2 are fine, as long as you don't need their Tech Support.

Personally I don't have time to try and test every single provider of every single service I need in my life.... digital TV, home phone, banking, credit cards, mobile phones, insurance, gas/electricity etc etc (in particular because many of them involve a one-year contract...).
Therefore I rely on other people's opinions, often people who have more knowledge than me (like many MSers), or the many people who already use the service.

What I was saying is that I did not choose O2 because it was the cheapest, but because ALL the information I found here, as well as on several reviews/comparison sites indicated that there was little difference between the two.

I had made the decision to go with BE and only changed my mind because everyone was saying that there is practically no difference except the price.... And that customer service is excellent....
What you are saying is news to me, and to be honest I'm a bit pixxed off to find this out.

ehrrr......Maybe what you are saying is not rubbish after all... ;)

    You need a BT line.
It's supposed to be very good, but they are currently having a lot of problems (which can be solved by using something called OpenDNS).
Their customer centre used to be better, according to customers who have been with them longer.
But many people swear by them, and believe the O2/BE connection is one of the best.
And it's unlimited usage (some congestion though).
Great offer and cashback out there...

This is all I know, in a nutshell...
If you have more specific questions there are quite a few people who have been with them for ages and will be able to help.

It's good only if available LLU on your exchange. Do not sign up for the non-LLU Access service.

    Personally...

No need for upset. We learn new things all of the time.

I too changed to O2, as the price was too good to resist. I moved from Be reluctantly, as their service and Tech Support were exemplary. They did their best to keep me, but the O2 product convergence brought me substantial savings they simply couldn't match.
Hard to beat £3 a month for a reliable Internet connection, together with POP3 email, webmail, email to mobile etc.

Luckily I have some Tech knowledge of my own, so little need to rely on O2 in that respect.
  • I was (and still am until next month) on the access package, but am paying a very reduced rate (just under £10) for it...next month get switched to LLU (fingers crossed).

Whenever I've had to call O2 I've had to wait ages (and I call at different times of the day) and haven't always found them hugely helpful...they are if you push them, but it took months of me calling just to get connected last year. Also had one saying I was accusing him of lying (rude b*stard), and I had to point out I was, because he was - he backed down when I proved my point, but never got an apology...eventually got 3 months free broadband (still waiting for that to be implemented), but never an outright apology.

Still, there have been times when I've called and the problem has been sorted pleasantly, plus they're cheap and do the job.
