As I work in the motor trade I have lots of inside knowledge of just how crap these VW DSG boxes are! They will last about 40-50,000 before the mechatronic bit fails miserably, causing about £2000 worth or repairs.
I'm not saying all DSG boxes are naff, just the VAG ones...0 -
It'll be interesting to see the true real life longevity of these DSG gearboxes with more and more in mainstream vehicles. The man without a signature.0

DSG, CTV, Multitronic, Servotronic etc are all dire. Give me a conventional auto anyday...!!0

I drove the flappy paddle toyota verso, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Was paired to a higher powered diesel which probably suits an auto better.
Still not a patch on a decent petrol and manual box though imo.0 -

That's not the same box at all, the DSG box is something altogether.
As for those talking about the box being unreliable and junk and trying to back it up because they are Car traders it's quite laughable. The DSG box has no major reliability issues that make it any worse than any other auto box and I would love to hear any stats they may have about it's failure rate. I know that the earlier generation DSG boxes in the Audi TT had issues but I have heard of nothing major since.
Fantastic box to drive by the way, amazing.0 -

Taken from that site:Here is the LINK to the NHTSA form. If you are one of the many with DSG issues, please take the time and fill one out. It should take no more than 10 min. tops:

that's just one of the many millions of pages from unhappy customers with a £3000 bill to pay. the reason why not many people know about it is cos VW DONT want you to know. The same Audi didn't want people knowing about how naff their CVT box was...0 -

I agree that a DSG box is a fantastic concept an excellent driving experience. My concern with DSG is that it isn't mainstream like proper slushmatics and no-one knows the longevity issues. On the one hand we have Porsche with the PDK box putting power through it, and we have Mitsubishi only supplying the lower power Evo with a DSG box.
Given that the DSG has twin clutches then we can assume that the friction plate will wear. So how hard/easy is it to access and resolve? The same price as a new clutch in a manual car or thousands to repair? My point is that with only VW and Ford as the mainstream "DSG equipped car manufacturer" there are too few DSG cars out there for us to get this knowledge. The man without a signature.0 -

Millions of pages? I very much doubt that. It's always incredibly easy to find dissenting voices about anything online, as I said I would actually like to hear some stats about their failure rate rather than examples of those who are shouting the loudest.
I have owned a DSG box, two of my colleagues at work currently have them and no problems yet.
Please Harvey give me some actual facts about the failure rate and issues with box to show they are any worse than others.0 -
You ask any agent and they will waffle on telling you how rare the problems are, but erm, seeing as there is an auto gearbox specialist a few miles down the road from us, I have lots of facts from them. Then even do work for erm, main agents...0
