    Granted there are forum posts where DSG related issues have been raised, but that can be said for a number of gearboxes - including manauls, see Auto Express Forum on the Toyota Yaris (yes it is a Japanese car!!)

    On the up side VW have diagnosed my ESP warning light as a failed ABS pump and are fixing FOC, also having a free MOT at the same time. I armed myself with Honest John information on Tourans and handed the service receptionist a copy. Did not even mention the Sale of Goods Act.

    !!!!!! has the ESP got to do with this thread...?

    If you care to read the 7th post in this thread, I clearly stated the problem I currently have with my car. It was intended as being informative and so was the solution that I have recieved from VW. Good service deserves a mention.

    2003 =1
    2004 =2
    2005 =3
    2006 =4
    2007 =5
    2008 =6
    2009 =7
    As i said that is almost double 4 years. Just keeping things in perspective and not giving misinformation, whether intentional or not.
  • Well if the DSG was launched in 2003, most of them will have been fixed under the 3yr warranty, so they will last another 2/3 years, so most of the fixed ones will be due to fail anytime now..

    I realise this is splitting hairs, but I was making the point that the DSG has been around longer than the 4 years quoted by yourself. Are you really in the motor trade?

    According to car.kak.net (sorry I can not post links) the DSG was first seen in the Golf R32 late 2002 and then other models in 2003. On this basis I believe my calcs are reasonably realistic.

    If I remember correctly, the DSG box was first built by Porsche many moons ago so it has been around for quite some time.

    One of my favourite German cars ever to have it, was the Audi Sport Quattro E2 rally car. If only they'd had a turbo lag system invented at the time, it would have been even better.

    They did

    Those sort of comments are unwarranted on this forum. All through this thread you have been unable to present any reasonale argument to support your comments.

    Just search the web on any car and any problem and you will find forums, threads on posts, web-sites dedicated to these issues.

    If there is a mojor issue with any particular manufacturer or technology then the public should be aware. From the evidence I do not beleive there is such an issue and the fact remains VW are dveloping the DSG technology and expanding the range.

    VW are not alone with the dual clutch as already noted. Again search the web and you will find BMW, Citreon, Porche, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Ford, Peugeot, Renault to name a few, all have a DC auto.
