Broadband Upgrade

Coming to end with BT, BT has offered the same deal as last year 15 quid for unlimited, but my family are fed up with BT service in a number of areas so we are looking to switch... LLU on our exchange is to say the least poor...

AOL
Orange
TalkTalk
Tiscali

no virign cable.

basic needs - unlimited or a large download so family use skype to talk and when son is home from university, the useage will jump, last 2 months we have used about 6-10GB but in June, July and August, the useage was 255GB, 190GB and 100GB.

what would you MSE'ers recommend

Since you can get it LLU, TT Essentials is the obvious choice from a financial point of view, as you can get the broadband service and E&W phone calls for only £6.49pm. Whether you can put up with TT's CS is another matter, my view is that if you can sort any problems out yourself then the service is OK. but don't expect much in the way of tech support if you need your hand holding. The data usage limit is only 40GB however.
Wouldn't touch Orange with a very long bargepole, and Tiscali/AOL are also part of CPW now, so no point in going with them.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

In which case it makes your decision fairly straightforward, doesn't it?

A TT 'megaboost' doubles your download allowance to 80GB a month, costs an extra £4, so if you're getting £6.49 off anyway then you're still £2.49 ahead.

Your download requirement coupled with no good LLU provider doesn't put you in a good position.

With that level of download you'll either need to pay out a lot of money or go with an all-you-can-eat ISP which guarantees pretty poor performance.

    Sorry
