oh go on then.....aapna style basically means make it 'our style' as in authentic with loads of spices and chillies as opposed to making it in the toned down flavour designed for western palates. well thats teh theory anyway.

How do you pronounce aapna? Would all take away curry places do this do you think or is it a bit of a speciality? Don't want to sound like an idiot ringing the local Indian takeaway and asking for it that's all

well 'aapna' is an urdu word which just means 'our'. so when an asian asks for 'aapna style' he is saying make it 'our style' as in make it asian style.

now if a non-asian was to say make it 'aapna style' then they would probably understand what you are asking for but you will probably get a chuckle or two because technically you have asked him to make it 'english style' or 'chinese style' depending what ethnicity you are. catch my drift?

Good description of aapna
They dont chuckle when I ask for aapna style, the waiters know exactly what I want. And that works in Bradford, Rusholme or Brick Lane.

You know, every year I go to an expo in the Old Truman Brewery in Brick lane, and to date I'm yet to have a curry on that road. I must try one next time I go down!
