Is this like HMV subscription used to be where you can download music onto your mp3 and it's licensed for 30 days? Or can you only listen to the music streamed on PCs?

Aye, the downloads yes, permanent, it was the streaming side of it I was querying. With HMV you effectively got to rent the songs for 30 days. There was that funny license thing on the MP3 which made them unplayable unless you updated your MP3 player to update the licenses, which confirmed your subscription and let you access the streamed downloaded songs for another 30 days. So effectively as long as you subscribed you could download all 4m songs.

Grooveshark is also excellent, and has most of the songs I've tried available for free streaming. No invite or registration required.:j

They are both legal and legitimate services, backed by the music industry, so there's nothing wrong with posting the links:
