If you read my original post you will see my quote which the poster used was referring to the cost of getting special clearance on a cheque. A post earlier on in this thread said their bank charged them £30 and I said that most banks charge around £12. I am wondering why the poster above my last post thinks it costs £38 to get special clearance on a cheque???!!!
  • : I have sent the first step to claiming my charges back, i am with the Alliance & Leicester Giro. How long does it take for them to send back the info I have asked also has anybody else been succesfull with the Alliance & Leicester. Iam on incapacity benefit due to having a liver transplant because I have problems with my immune system, so I need a bank to pay my money in also I have direct debits coming out. I am a little worried but hopefully it will turn out alright.
  • Hi I am very savvy with money, I am in a position where I have to be paid by the Benefits agency into a Bank Account, I have owned my own home and business and am a super saver bargin hunter, I have struggled this week to put enough food on the table for my children, why, because money was not paid into m y account over 4 weeks ago, yes I am getting the payments back soon at some point, but not today, not when I need them. I live in a village and sometimes when I am on Incomming calls only I cant just ring the bank or get the DSS to answer the phone on a monday or tuesday because they are so busy with all the mistakes they have made. I am on a limited income, if I do not use Direct Debits I get charges 10% more on my bills, The local post office's have closed so I have to rely on the banking system to not mess up and the Benefit office not to mess up, I have not messed up, and lots of people who are in the same mess as me are really already struggling to make ends meet or they wouldnt of got charged in the first place, I wish I could have 1.000 just sitting in the bank for a rainy day, but with 3 young children and one with exceptionally high attention needs and destructive behaviour at time, there is never any spare money to cover situations when money hasnt gone in when it should. I have been so let down by the system as I feel like a criminal being threatened all the time with some sort of action or another, and frankly its time it stopped, I would be happy without a bank account, I have never made any money having one, in fact its cost me probably 4.000 having one. I will happily go all the way to the court for my money as they have caused me extreme suffering and poverty. I have tried to be a good person and would not dream of ripping people off and am losing faith very fast in all the services this country my father and his father thought fit to fight for RIP.

Sorry I do not want to offend anybody but I feel offended by the reference to our debts as being made by idiots who cant read or manage our money. I am not enviouse of anyone having money, well done I say, its how it should be, and I wish I could strive for the same, but at the moment I am having to care for my son 24/7 so I am at the mercy of the system in place.

This is terrific as it highlights the very problems I have encountered, with variations. I had four young children when I was on income support. The courts decreed that my then husband needed his £36,000 per annum to live on in spite of the five of us having to survive on something well under £10,000 including housing benefit which did not even cover half the rent. (After all he had a mistress to keep.) Then the four children and myself were obliged to beconme homeless as the debts for the rent had mounted to four thousand pounds.

This country really does not give a damn, especially if you do the best you can as I did, by accounting for every penny I spent. No one asked me for my accounts. I wonder why?!

There is a huge number of people out there who really do not know what real hardship is. They are very lucky, except for the fact that they often, do not know, who they are!

Anyway, well done, Chrissie, evidently you are on the ball and doing the best you can with what you have and, in point of fact, have not; thanks to an uncaring government.

  • to the guy whom has a vested intrest in the bank ie a job. no one says we shouldnt pay charges but lets face it pressing a button or sending an
automated letter to a customer should only be charged at the real cost.which in this age should be relatively cheap .why dont banks and building societies come up front and justifie them selfs i wonder if you
could put a price on your mess £28 or £39 +intrest maybe some more penalties followed by more and more and so on. to be on the reciving end
and not being able control the unjust amounts being taken by the banks
i feel hurt but not surprised by what you say your in the banking trade.

The way you put it, I agree, but it is the decision that either the guy his superior makes that puts the cost up. All actions taken by a bank, as in any other business or trade, have to iclude all elements- premises, taxation, staff wages and pensions etc etc. You may have views how those costs should be dispersed over a bank's operations, but those views do not deny the full costs are there, Your opinion is adkin to saying the cost of owning ahouse is that of the wear and tear of the doormat.

Not sure if posting it here is the right place but a recent refinancce loan my bank offered me (I rejected) a new term was if I missed a payment the letter informing me would cost a £25 admin fee.

1 - they calling it an admin fee now been very careful
2 - the fee is just for the letter the payment wouldnt be paid.

  • Hi there,

I had a redundant bank account in France which I have kept open for years as i thought one day i would move back there having lived there for years and years. I paid off a loan and told them my new address via an e-mail and that i was living in the UK.

I have just been told to my utmost disgust and shock that I owe them 682.22€ in bank charges and insurance etc etc which has been accumulating in my account. They have never sent me any bank statements since about september 2003 and i assumed this was normal as to my knowledge there was no activity on my account.

They have since replied to my e-mail saying if i pay 490€ they will pay the rest being the 192.22€.

Does anyone out there know what I can do to avoid paying this outrageous amount on an account which i haven't used for years.

I know someone who had their own business and they took the same bank to court but i don't know the outcome of the case, i am in the process of finding out.

Please any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    From a desperate furious person!
