Electricity bill explanation...Please Please Help

I've just received a bill from Spark Energy, and as this is my first electricity bill I really don't understand it. I moved into the flat on the 19th Sept, and the bill is for October. I presume the balance brought forward is to cover September? It is for £60.96, which seems a bit mad for two weeks.

I have three pages, the first one is the account summary...fair enough. Page 2 has the Economy 7 charges (£23.78), with 'Day' and 'Night' meter readings, which I think I understand also. My problem is the last page which is for the 'Unsupported Tariff'. Under the meter readings where the Economy 7 one says Day and Night it has '_Unknown', with three different readings, which comes to £101.86.

I don't know if its normal or not but for each tariff page there are different supply numbers....?

What are these '_Unknown' meter readings? Should I not just have the Economy 7 readings? And since I am living on my own in a one bed flat is this quite expensive?

Hi Aburke85 are you able scan the bill and place a link here (obscuring any infomation that would identify you persoanlly).

A couple of idea's have sprung to mind but at this stage I don't have enough infomation to suggest one over the other.

1 - Unknown could be that they've estimated the reading? but i'm confused as to why they dind't simply state this.

2 - It could be that intially they put you on a tarriff your meter cannot support. For example an economy 10 or 18 tarriff on an economy 7 meter.

It might also be helpful for you to get in touch with your supplier and talk it over with them directly. They should be able to clear this up for you, or at the very least provider some additional infomation that might prove helpful here.
  • Do you know how to put up a link to the scanned images?:o

You need to host the image elsewhere e.g. imageshack and then click on the icon when replying to thread to insert an image link

Not sure if new members can do that though as I think anti-spam measures might prevent you posting links, even to an image.

Just post the link, perhaps with a few spaces in it, and someone will display the image for you ... hopefully.

Have you ever taken and submitted a meter reading (hopefully when you moved in)? Did you ask to be put on the cheapest tariff and have you checked your supplier offers competitive tariffs? Are the readings on your bill actual or estimated? How many dials were there on your meter? Have you been to the meter cupboard and checked what that you have read all the meters for your flat, and that the serial numbers match your bill?

Living on your own in an all-electric flat is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. Assuming it is a reasonably modern flat, and therefore well insulated, you can pay as little as we do at £34 a month but you will need to be pretty frugal! Alternatively if you want to be fairly free and easy with the heating and hot water you can expect bills in excess of £100 a month over winter. If you are not familiar with either living alone or all-electric properties, my advice is to read your meters monthly and adjust your usage accordingly.

Thank you Debrag for the repost,

Unfortunately I can't get enough detail in the bill when I zoom in. Hopefully others are having more luck.

Fire Fox has asked some useful questions, if you can answer those we can get a start on helping to resolve the problem.
