  • My DD went to the O2 last weekend and travelled from Hillingdon area.

It took 2 hours to get home so you may want to look at somwhere a bit closer!

Thanks Glittermonkey, we know there's lot of works on some of teh lines which is why we'd have to make more changes than normal and predicting it to take 1.5 hours to get from Hillingdon to North Greenwich and probably worse coming back (11pm) due to the number of people. The alternative to drive through London from M40 to the O2 does not seem so good as when we've tried before it just takes a long time to not get very far and then expensive parking.

Did it take 2 hours to get to Hillingdon tube station or home?

  • They actually travelled back to Hatton Cross. DD was with her Dad who doesn't have the best sense of direction so he probably took them on a longer route!

But he said he got in at just after 11pm and the show they were watching finished at around 9pm-ish.

    Thanks Glittermonkey.

We’ve decided that it’ll be less hassle and probably quicker to take the train in from Bicester then tube Marylebone to Waterloo (Bakerloo line) and then Waterloo to North Greenwich (Jubilee line). Grand total for this option would be £43, which is a lot more than I was thinking but actually, considering fuel costs and parking, about £10 more than the other options. So maybe that's the price we have to pay for convenience...

we've decided to walk to Baker Street (5mins) and then get on the Jubilee line and go direct, so no change of tube.

The only problem on Sunday is the Jubilee line isn't running from Baker street to Waterloo, so we're on the Bakerloo from Marylebone to Waterloo. It may be different next weekend?

    Short answer: 1hr 45’ going, 2hrs 15’ return

    The long winded waffle:

So going from Bicester North, caught the 3:22pm and walked through the main entrance of O2 at 5:05pm, this was very much best case journey as there where no stops through to Marylebone and the longest we had to wait for a tube was 3 minutes. So allow 2 hours is probably realistic. However if Jubilee is working (Engineering works on Sunday so had to use Bakerloo to Waterloo.) and you went from Baker street, probably quicker. Coming back was a different story, we were watching the tennis so left it a bit too late to leave! We came out 2 games before the end at 10:55pm with several hundred others and legged it through all the tubes. When we got to Waterloo and legged it to the Bakerloo line the next train was 7 minutes (well it was after 11 on a Sunday). So we pulled into Marylebone at 11:42pm and legged it to get on the Banbury 11:45pm train which pulled out of the station as we got to a seat on the 2nd carriage, so perfect timing…Well actually too close for comfort, all the way we were working out contingencies etc for missing the last train. So obviously should have aloud an extra 15 minutes, schoolboy error and got away with it but I wouldn’t make that mistake again. The train pulled into Bicester North at 01:10am, so it’s a slower one being the last, stopping everywhere… Having said that if it was a concert and we left at the same time as everybody I suspect it would take a lot longer to get out of the O2 and getting onto the platform at North Greenwich.

Nice venue the O2 just too much hassle to get to and out of for us. We planned to eat a meal there but all the restaurants etc in the outer ring had queues of 30 to 100 people waiting to get a table. So with our tickets we got through to the ‘inner’ ring of the arena where the fast food outlets had no queues. We managed to get a very average over priced instant Chinese, which surpassed my very low expectations. So food and travel total £74 tickets £115, best part of £200 for 2 of us watch Federer being tested by the talented Verdasco.
