Should I buy this house?

Hi people,

i got inspired byt Iandavidcassidy's post.

We have found a house that has lots of potential in Southampton. The area is nice with upmystreet.com saying that income, interest in current affairs and qualifications are medium. The area looks very quiet.

However, what faces the house are big white plain straight faced flats.

The house is on a slope, has the potential for a sloppy drive, a utility room (which needs a proper lintel above the door) which could be extended into a garage (like next door), 3 decent sized bedrooms with the bathroom upstairs. Because the house is on a slope, it has a basement at the back, with one space that does not have enough head room to qualify as livable but could be used as a den. The rest is crawling space and could be used for storage. The garden is on 2 levels and is quite big.

The asking price is 150k. Now the bits that could put me off are it does not have double glazing and the roof does not look pristine (2 houses in the same street ahve brand new ones).

The house that we lost was worth 145 with a drive, no basement space but a huge brick shed in the garden. The area was not as quiet but it did not have straight in your face flats right in front.

I was thinking of putting in an offer for 144k on this house:

since replacing the windows would cost about 5k.

I know it all comes down to us to make the decisions, but I have so blasee and OH is getting depressed with the house business, just wanted to know if I was too picky and maybe get a reality check.

Thank you in advance.

It sounds like a good deal, but the fact you're already having doubts it just screams no.
A bargain is only a bargain if you would have brought it anyway!
