Firewalls...?

My Norton IS subscription ran out and I wanted a different one to use as it was very resource hungry.
So, I downloaded Sygate...only to find out that Symantec (Norton) have taken Sygate over since November!

What are the best Firewalls out there to use?

I tried Avast but it blocked my e-mails fro connecting to the server to retreive them and I could not for the life of me get to allow the 'traffic'.

So...Options please? :)
Thanks

Well even though Sygate is now obsolete it still does work, but no where near as good as Kerio in recent reviews.

I would opt for Kerio very similar user interface.

Hi Quincy, I made a mistake, Avast wouldn't install because I never received the e-mail with the code from them. The one that blocked my e-mails etc was Kerio.
I couldn't get it to allow anything at all.

I would recommend Zonealarm as being one of the best firewalls. If all you want is just the firewalll then the basic version is free.

If you want a whole security suite then go for Zonealarm Pro at about £30 from their website or Amazon. Of course you can also get all the components of a security suite seperately and for free if you wish, although often not as good as a whole package it obviously saves cash.

Ah ha when Installing Kerio you should of gone simple setup, but I expect you panicked when Kerio asked for access you said NO,,, no worries just right click the Kerio Icon then click on Network Security and if you see Outlook Express listed double click it then on the permit change to allow.

Yeah, I did click no as the details came up didn't relate to Outlook Express!
I have nothing on my pc, it is clean so when that came up, I automatically presumed it was an outside remote access.
I have Sygate still installed so...may leave that on there for now and try Kerio in a couple of days again.

You will need to totally remove Sygate first I suggest this manouvre.

Download Kerio, Disconnect from net, Uninstall Sygate, Restart PC, Install Kerio Choose Simple Mode, Restart PC, Reconnect to the Net, and allow any access that is deffo needed.

Thanks. Is it worth sticking with the FULL Kerio or stay with the FREE version?

I've used Sygate for years and have always found it excellent, no changes since Norton took it over. and definitely not a resource hog.
