Free Commuter Parking

My local station car park - NCP - charges 5 pounds per day to park. My local supermarket - 2 minutes walk from station - is free for 2 hours. Parking restrictions enforced by Europarks - therefore unenforceable. I park there approx 4 times per month thereby saving approx 240 pounds per year. Whenever I receive an invitation to pay I ignore - as always. For any regular commuters this could save thousands of pounds.

  • And is not anything that most on here would approve of. Whilst its ok to ignore when a ppc oversteps the mark its not right to abuse free parking in this way. Thats my opinion anyway.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

    I agree with that.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • I uderstand your viewpoint but with respect this is a "Money Saving" forum. Being a well known supermarket they have to appear to be sensitive to their customers so no risk of the nasty clampers-wouldn't want to scare the regulars away. Therefore park however you like whenever you like. This is a real " Money Saving" idea with no risks attached. And don't feel too sorry for the supermarkets - just read numerous threads within the forums to see how they treat their customers.

Problem is if people start parking like this and thinking they can get away with it, soon they might get tougher and get a clamping and towing firm in. Of course you will notice the signs when they go up though.

I like the idea of doing this to loads of different ones, so they pay for your details and send you some letters to make you feel loved. Them paying money to DVLA and paying to send letters, then getting nothing in return. If enough people did this they would go out of business.

If money is your main concern, why not take a bus or walk to the station? Much cheaper, and you leave some parking for people who actually need it at the supermarket!
  • Money is all our main concern - that's why we're here. As to consideration of others- when I'm filling my trolley with special offers I'm not thinking of anyone else I'm thinking how many (of this limited offer as they all are) can I carry. So I say fill your boots and park away. Re clamping and towing they'll never do it - imagine the local paper with distressed pensioner/single mum scenario. They lose and we win - result!!
  • Hmm..something not quite right here.

What if everyone did it and there was nowhere for supermarket customers to park?
  • Having had a look at garnelle's posting history, I don't think he is being very honest here.
  • Totally honest - you cannot be made to pay for using a private car park. Everyone who commutes by train can make this considerable saving if there's a supermarket near their station. I'm sure if lack of space becomes a problem then the supermarket giants could invest in some form of parking control - barriers, attendants etc - but until then enjoy the huge savings. As a bonus should the station be close to a nearby airport then you can avoid expensive parking charges for the cost of a cheap return fare. Happy hols!!
