It does make sense - thank you. All my money is tied up on my DMP, and I know I would find the money to buy fags, but I wouldn't feel right taking the money out of the account to see it mounting up.

I've had a think about this since I posted. I put money into my hubby's account each month to do stuff with the kids - swimming etc - and this is usually gone by the end of the month (put sadly not on the kids). Last month it was mostly still there (except that we bought a takeaway and DVDs because we were so excited to have a bit of money!).

Also, at the end of the month, I usually end up going food shopping with my cheque book so that we can buy food, but pay for it after I've had my pay for the month. We didn't so this last month.

Perhaps it will take a little while to see - it's just that I'm at that stage where I really want a ciggy just to remind myself what I'm missing. However, Allan Carr says that you mustn't, ever, have that one ciggy as it will lead to more.

By the way, I survived the barbeque with the neighbours. They offered me a ciggy but I said no thank you. I'm so proud of myself!

I don't know if this will help but you are still in the early days of being a reformed smoker. It took me from the age of 12 until I was 42 until I finally gave it up for good. Even now I have the odd craving but now realise that I'm stressed or worried about something. Hang on in there and it does get easier, don't let temptation get the better of you. you will win in the end

  • Have also read the book and it does work - but found that I needed to convince myself by saying 'you can have a cigarette if you want to', when I knew I really didn't want to. Reverse psychology I guess. The worst bit is getting over the 'nicotine rage', which I guess is when the cravings reach their peak - it used to make me pick arguments with the OH just so I could have an excuse to reach for the fags. Pathetic really.... Have given up successfully for the second time, two months ago and really don't think I could be so stupid as to start again. The health benefits are incredible and mentally notice I feel calmer and happier without them. Congrats to all those non-smokers and good luck to everyone who wants to stop.

Thanks both. I'm sticking at it. I managed to get through the pub today. I kept looking at my mate's fags, but knew I would be so disappointed in myself if I asked for one. I didn't have one, but haven't stopped eating today.

I'm already overweight, but at least I'm an overweight non-smoker now and will be able to deal with that in due course.

I can't believe it - my SilkQuit Meter states that I gave up smoking 7 months, 3 weeks, 4 days, 9 hours, 13 minutes and 9 seconds ago.

I've not smoked an amazing 4787 cigarettes and saved a fantastic £1,010.38.

That is amazing. Well done, congratulations.
I gave up almost 3 years ago and have had the odd wobble but I know that just one ciggie today will be 20 tomorrow so I resist. The urge is only fleeting anyway.
  • Milliejon, thats great, congrats on your achievement. I know how hard it is, i have had a wavering moments as well, hopefully it will get easier and nicotine won't be ruling my life any more. Well done.:T
