    I think I'll do that.

In the meantime, to be on the safe side, virgin atlantic only charge £30 to amend a booking name
Many people have been ok using their middle name as long as it actually appears on their passport, but with more and more countries requiring APIS things are getting stricter.

The bane of the travel industry is names from certain countries where it is customary to have 3 or 4 first names and 3 family names.
I understand people are very proud of their names but your ticket really does have to match the name as it appears on your passport. I have had one client who persistantly insists on making bookings in a name that is totally different to her real name and she gets slammed with charges every time she travels, but I've given up on reasoning with her.

With every increasing automation I can envisage the day when you turn up at the airport and have to swipe you boarding card and passport at a turnstile, if the two dont match 100% it wont let you through. No one to debate with because machines only operate in black and white.
Just because you dont use/like/want your first name, use it on any travel bookings and be done with it or change your name by deed poll. Anything else will get increasing expenseive in terms of ticket changes or surcharges.
