Traveling with middle name

I always booked my airlines tickets with my middle name because my first one I never use it for anything.
As an example, my passport reads Mary Jane Smith. I always booked as Jane smith and never had any problem.
I hear now that there are new regulations that your name on your ticket has to match the one on your passport?
I flew Easyjet last week with my middle name and no problem but I'm traveling to Australia in january with Virgin and I wonder if I'll have any problem then?
Has anyone had any issue recently?
I don't really wanna pay the fee to change the name on my ticket if they are gonna let me in anyway

Check with Virgin and any other airline before you book your future flights.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I don't think these are new regulations at all, I'm just very surprised that you have 'got away' with this for so long. This subject has been discussed rather a lot on here previously. The name on your ticket should match the name on your passport.0

I'm similar where I use my middle name as my known name. Though when ever I fly I've always used my first and middle name to make things easier, though I always thought that it was a requirement to match the name on the passport?0

I don't know but I've travelled dozens of times including several times to the US always with my middle name and nobody has ever said anything.
I was referring to this new requirement, which came from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) who wants passengers to present travel documents that bear their full names and apparently came into effect last May.
on the virgin site it says: Your booking and ticket must reflect your first and last names only. Middle names are not required.
what if i never used my first name as such?0 -

Change your name by deed poll and get a new passport?0 -
They don't know that you are known by other people that know you by your middle name because they don't know you at all.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

im really shocked that people have managed to travel by their middle names. Long time ago I asked a gentleman his name to hold off seats. When I called him back to confirm the booking, the gentleman advised me that he had giving me the middle name and last name as that was what he was known by.
The airline refused to change the name and as it was the last 2 seats at that fare I could not re book, therefore losing the booking as I was told when the option expires their was no way I could pick it up.
Even these days working for a Airline I have known people having to pay at the airport hefty charges for not having their first names shown0 -

To be honest, it was said a bit tongue-in-cheek; why would you go to the hassle and expense of doing that instead of just booking using your proper full name as per passport from now on?
I reckon you're a bloke and you've been blessed with a lovely first name like Hilary and you're just embarrased to say!0
