I am being asked to assist in a lesson that I don't agree with!!!

Sick pay is for people who are sick. Can you see the little hint in the wording?

Under the realm of 'sick' is STRESS and ANXIETY - something that the OP is suffering from if she is so concerned about this ordeal that she has come onto an internet forum for 'advice'.
What constructive advice have you given to the OP exactly? I'm not in agreement with her, but at least I've come up with a solution to her problem! All you seem to do is find critique in my suggestions! Are you a wannabe politician?Success and failure is determined by effort.0 -

Have you ever actually suffered from stress and or anxiety? Having been close to somebody that has it is a million miles away from wondering whether a 16 year old should be allowed to cook with alcohol in a supervised environment in a school or the fact that I have to have a half day out of the office with a free lunch but will miss my chips and gravy and a bit of banter.0 -

There are extremes to stress and anxiety and everyone gets stressed and anxious anything from one day to their whole lives. I'm not recommending a 6 month course of valium or prozac. I'm recommending she avoids the situation for 1 day to stop her 'suffering' from becoming any worse.Success and failure is determined by effort.0 -

Sorry, there is no 'suffering' here, simply a situation that somebody does not agree with or does not like. If everybody threw a sickie when that happened in their working life the country would more than likely grind to a halt. Grow up.0 -

So what is your solution to OP's problem? What advice are you giving? Or are you just going to critique the one and only solution that the OP has been provided with? Grow up?! Is that the best you can say?Success and failure is determined by effort.0 -
The OP should assist in the lesson as that is what his or her job entails as mentioned in post 42. Simples.0

If ever something wa blown out of proportion this is it. This is not an issue, it is in the mind of the OP. She is not responsible for the alcohol, and there will be very little of it. Taking sick leave for stress is laughable, and insulting to those who really do endure stress in the workplace. Advising someone to go down this route is pandering to them and enabling them to cop out.0

Neither of us know the OP and neither of us know how much this is affecting her. I have given 2 options - either get over it and do the class, or, if it is stressing her out for whatever reason, then go sick. People react differently to different impositions that are put upon them. Something that you are perceiving as trivial (and to some extent so do I) may not be trivial to someone else. Telling her to go and look for another job is only likely to p1ss her off even more. I'm not suggesting to go sick in every situation and nor am I suggesting to her to get another job.Success and failure is determined by effort.0 -
If this is really stressing her out....she is in the wrong job.0

Maybe it is just my imagination but to me (having looked at your other posts) it appears that telling people to go sick is possibly in your top 10 solutions to various issues. It is not a solution, and if you are not sick but just a little pe*d off it is a lie. Fact.
If somebody is truly aggrieved at work then there are proper channels to follow, all schools have a grievance procedure in place. Coming onto a forum like this willl give them an indication of what 'Joe Public' thinks is appropriate or not. My view is that the task they are being asked to do is acceptable, as such they may be asked to do it again, and again. If they really don't like it then they need to decide if it is the right job for them to be in.0
