I'm thinking its either a fumble by a spell checker or they meant precious or petty. Either way I see it as the best advertisement for proof reading your posts I've seen so far this year :D

  • OP I am not going to take the P out of you over this one. It is a difficult one - especially for someone who has either experienced the effects of hard drug addiction or had someone close to them addicted to alchohol. However you also need to be realistic and as some have pointed out here alchohol is a natural substance and the lesson isnt about getting kids !!!!ed. And as long as the lesson does not encourage kids to use alchohol as anything other than a cokking ingredient then I dont think you should be too concerned.

I would just hope that the school also educates the kids on the dangers of using the most prevelent hard drug of our time, as anything but an ingredient in spag bol!

Ditto. I was just about to comment that this seems to be their advice on pretty much everything. And what a singularly duff piece of advice it is... as far as I can see, losing a day's pay is never going to be the answer to any problem.

I would have thought that unless she is supply staff she'll get paid for it with occupational sick pay. Stress at work = day off to cope with stress. She'll also be avoiding the situation so avoids all whatever she was anticipating.

What is your problem with going sick? Some companies offer 'bed days' instead of phoning in sick to try and get a more genuine angle on abscence and how to manage it. If they don't offer these, then that's their problem.

Dude, alcohol is not a natural substance. That's like saying heroin is a natural drug.

And 'Dude' neither are many chemicals that these young men and women will certainly come across when they start work..
I used Methol Ethol Keytone.. MEK as a printer when I was 16 years old, it was used as a blanket wash.. also used in dry cleaning..
Also Isopropyl alcohol .. IPA .. now that really is neat alcohol and used in the printing process.
For goodness sake it's a cookery lesson!

I wanted to post a rant about fraud, trust and letting workmates down etc, but you won't get it - idiot!

Sick pay is for people who are sick. Can you see the little hint in the wording? :p

Ignore Moneysavingexpert79's advice..its his answer to everything..go off sick..he also isnt well versed in employment law as was proven on another thread.

OP I think that you are a bit misguided and putting your own beliefs onto children who are in school to learn by refusing to use alcohol in a lesson. They are not being asked to drink it..they come across alcohols all the time both in the classroom (chemistry) and even at home..especially if they use mouthwash that you can buy in any supermarket - Listerine is full of the stuff. The use of alcohol in a controlled environment is a good thing..its when they go to parties and parks swigging bottles of Diamond White that you need have cause to worry. In case you didnt realise it..not all children are idiots and they can use their brains as well as any of us.

I'm sure it won't be the first time a teenager has used alcohol to help with their cocking (sic) !:D

    It is absence not abscence.

'Duvet Days' are, I believe an American initiative, and possibly have their place in the workplace. I was on an 'Improving Working Lives' group with a previous employer and this was one of the initiatives discussed, obviously the number of duvet days allowed in a year was limited.

Nobody should take the p**s when it comes to work. Unfortunately as more and more people are starting to realise that 'job for life' is rapidly becoming a distant memory, no matter what sector you work in. You are employed to do a job, for which there will invariably be a job description which at the end says something along the lines of 'any additional tasks considered appropriate for the post' which I personally believe is fine in the case of the OP's query. If they do not like it or do not want to do it then possibly they should look elsewhere for employment.

However, as I know that the last term time only job at my school attracted near on 200 applicants I would think long and hard before making that decision!
