flueless gas fires

When we replaced our boiler we also asked if they could remove our flueless fire as it was not used and just got in the way as it was mounted on the only unencumbered wall in the lounge. Gas engineer was delighted that we were getting shot of it as he considered them dangerous. He did it for free, including making good and capping the gas pipe. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

... If you don't have a chimney go for balanced flue gas or a wall mounted electric fire, neither of these need a vent.
Some people don't have a chimney or a suitable outside wall to mount a gas fire on
e.g. a living room comprising of 4 walls could have one wall abutting a kitchen, the opposite being the partywall of a semi, the rear abutting an integral garage and the only external wall being almost fully glazed e.g. a patio door
Electric sounds great, but with electricity costing about 15-20p per kwh, you can see why gas is so enticing at just 3-4p per kwh."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Where does the 'wasted gas' go then, bearing in mind it's flueless?
I think you may be confusing this with decoratative gas fires where much of the heat is lost up the chimney/flue.
My issue is the maximum output is not enough to heat a room effectively. The OP is considering one as an alternative to using central heating. A 2.5kw fire won't do this - would you advise a 2.5kw electric heater to heat such a large room?
Friends have one and I can stand in front of it and hardly feel any heat from it. They only use it for decorative purposes as it's room heating capabilities are next to useless.0 -

I didn't consider the output; my comment was regarding your suggestion that they waste gas.
If one is not big enough, why not get more? They are "virtually 100% efficient".

Outputs vary be design.
This one for example has an output of 4.5kwh
