    I did the following:

I have got good quotes by using comparethemarket.com ... try different sites.

If you get a quote with an insurer which offers a pass plus discount (you probably won't), consider doing that as you might save 20 to 30%.

Add a parent as a named driver to the policy which is in your name... and the key thing.... when it asks you whether you as the primary driver OR your named driver has any access to other cars... tick yes if thats the case as it will save you even extra.

Remember to try cars which are both new and old. I have found I can can save £600 by buying a new car which is less than a year old and adding my Dad to the policy vs. choosing an older car with a smaller engine in a lower insurance group. You might find you save more than a thousand on your insurance by spending a few more thousand on a newer car!

Alarm and immobiliser will save you more if you are keeping the car on the street/public road in a high risk postcode.

Try to assess whether the size of the engine or model of car really makes a difference... try a corsa 1.0L and 1.2L and 1.4L to see if the quotes are that much different... try crap cars (think skoda and nissan). At 25, the size of engine and make/model made no difference at all for me.

only do that if it's the truth though ;)

No doubt street cred. Most young uns these days think Sh!troen Saxo's and Vauxhall Corsa's are really good cars, they drive them like idiots then wrap them around lamp posts. I personally can't see what's so great about them. Granted they're probably better than a Renault Clio, but a Nissan Micra has to be the superior car technically and in terms of build quality.

I used to drive a Saxo and I actually think it was a pretty decent car. It was a bit heavy, being one of the last on the line with no power steering, but it felt solid and I liked it, thankyouverymuch.

Then I got an automatic Polo, and gosh, I loved that car even though it leaked and had no radio, but then some bint drove into me and that was the end of that love story.

Now I drive a 2.0 Beetle, my insurance has gone right up, any repairs are astronomical, and I seem to be constantly at petrol stations.

OP, if you go to the insurance forum and post your question you'll get a more measured feedback. I think you'll find QD really wanting in the replies from the guys there, who know what they are talking about!
