  • Thanks for the link - interesting reading. Perhaps I should time the journeys as well. I still don't see how there can be 33% deviation though.

£2.20 minimum fare in London? Are you sure?

It's £2.60 here for a black cab and I'm on the Wirral, over the Mersey from Liverpool.

How do you do a start & end rural journey in a London black cab?
  • Yes, 100%. The minimum fare in London is £2.20.

I live on the very distant boundary of zone 6. It's not 'rural' as in Emmerdale, but it's definitely not built-up and I can assure you the journey home is always traffic-free!
  • Makesure the driver turns the meter on when you get in the cab, check the extras aswell, some might charge extra to pick up from train stations, the meter should also be sealed, so no tampering, if this was the case you can report them to PCO office. The meter should only run when the wheels are moving, or when you are stationary, this is classed as waiting time, yes even if your at a level crossing it still ticks over, if your not happy with this then book a mini cab and get a set fare..

One more point - is the meter always been at £0 when you get in? Some do (or used to) charge "waiting time", or add this on at the end.

The moment I start using a spreadsheet to plot taxi journey fares will be about the same time my wife leaves me.
