Arrrrrgh!!.............Why do I bank with LTSB ?

Whatever you want to do - you just know there will be an issue
Opened an NSI bond 2 weeks ago funded from Natwst - no problems
Thought I'd do another funded from LTSB..
Checked with the branch if there were any llimits/restrictions on on-line Debit card transactions - "NO as long as there are sufficient funds to cover. Worst case scenario, might get a security checks phone call for a large amount".
So NSI bond for 40K - got bounced by LTSB today. (why didn't they contact me???)
1)Phone telephone banking - "Contact your branch as they said any amount was OK"
2)Phone branch - "Phone card services to notify them of large payment" -but they gave me the wrong number
3)Check website - no telno for Debit card transactions
4)Phone telephone banking & ask to be put through to card services. Helpful lady says there is no point as its just been bounced because its over the 30K permitted transaction limit.(Lloyds limit? Visa Limit? - and why don't the branch know that) - apparently no way to get that limit raised - but it certainly was not a problem when funding from Natwest
5) Have now reapplied to NSI with 30K - do I have anyconfidence it will work? ...
...that'd be a NO!!

Vote with your feet and move to First Direct. They'll even give you £100 for joining.
I've never had any such infuriating issues with FD!0 -
Never had a problem with LTSB."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I've never had any problems with LTSB apart from their appaling transfer system, which I thought they had a grip on.
I have never transferred large sums though!0 -
Actually the real reason I stay (now that I've calmed down) - is the 4% they pay me on my current accounts and the fact that all my maturing bonds from the good old days are linked to my LTSB account.Vote with your feet and move to First Direct. They'll even give you £100 for joining.

Agree their transfer system is rubbish- I have so little faith in them I was thinking of moving the 40K to Natwest and setting up the bond from there - 'til I realised even with FP (which only works on 1 of my accountsI've never had any problems with LTSB apart from their appaling transfer system, which I thought they had a grip on.

) it was gonna take 40 transactions and 4 days (but it might come to that) 0 -
I've has similar issues with HSBC and a large value debit card transaction. I just loved it when they came up with the statement that there is a "customer not present" limit, but we can't tell you what it is.
Come the revolution, I know who'll be first against the wall.........In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
They've also got a limit for transfers even between their own accounts. I phoned the week before to ensure there wouldn't be any problem when I needed to do a biggish transfer between an HBOS savings a/c and an HBOS current a/c and was told it would be fine. When I tried to do the transfer found there was a £50K limit on transfers between accounts.
And a transfer to their Birm Midshires operation is even more complicated - BM uses a Barclays, not HBOS, bank account.0 -
At least HBOS give you an answer when asked (I have an email from Halifax with ther various transfer limits from their accounts - have published it a couple of times but can do again if needed).Rollinghome wrote: »They've also got a limit for transfers even between their own accounts. Trying to get any info out of LTSB 's like trying to get blood out of a stone.0 -
What about asking your branch if they could do a CHAPS payment. They should do it on the same day depending on the time of day you give them the details, and the money and the payment will get to the other bank also on the same day. There will be a fee but it would be worth it.
Good luck, sounds like a very frustrating situation.

Thanks but the online application needed to be a debit card transaction - but am assured the reduced amount will go through -- we'll see!!What about asking your branch if they could do a CHAPS payment.
