Why does 3 lie?

Not that I am some kind of 3 hater but I like 3 for their normal customer services options (fault with handset/billing query/etc) however, when it comes to upgrading why do I feel they lie to eternity or give you some kind of wrong information to make sure you are confused to hell. Here are a few examples:
-) From this forum, the HTC Hero is not as the same as HTC G2
-) After getting a bonafide deal from a network, 3 says that there is no guarantee that they will give you the deal/handset. What? I already told them that it's a valid deal.
-) I told them that I am moving networks in a months time cos the other network is offering me for £26.50 for 800mins/unlim txt+internet + HTC Hero (18m contract). The lady says that I can get a extremely special deal that is reserved only for special customers. Their offer : £35 a month for 750mins/unlim txt+internet and best of all the phone is free. I said what ? Why should I pay you £8.50 more, she says 3 is giving phone for free and her manager has authorised the deal. I said but I am getting the same for less. She then says "Sir, there is no guarantee .... blah blah" I said sorry I will call after a few days when I am eligible to get my PAC number.
Does anyone feel the same? Do you think they tend to lie? Please feel free to post. I surely feel that they should replace their upgrade/retentions staff with the ones in billing/troubleshoot issues.

You are telling them you can get a deal somewhere else on a cheaper tariff, the person you speak to may or may not know about other networks (why should they if they work for 3?)
All 3 customer people are likely to be trained to do is to sell their own products. She claims its a free phone with 3 making an assumption your deal with other network is likely to mean paying for phone - did you explain to her the phone you are geting with other network is not free? Or otherwise?0 -
Yes, I did mention that the phone is free . 3 also say that they are more than aware of what deals do their competitors offer.Bank accountsSantander : 17 year relationship, 0 problems to date.0

Well just ask for your disconnections, they will soon change their tune.
I was once offered 100 mins, 100 texts a month for life with 3 as a retention deal (ok not many mins and texts) - but the offer was for £5 a month for ever (no phone though).
In fact if you are keen to stay with them - its worth going online to their site and chatting to the online bot (which eventually can be a real person) and explain the situation but in meantime just go to disconnections.0 -
The HTC Hero is the same as the T-Mobile G2 Touch. T-Mobile opted for the G2 name as they already have the G1, the first android based handset. You also have the HTC Magic and the HTC Tattoo - again, they are Android based handsets.0

G2 etc is a "poor" naming system for a phone.
Phones are as follows:
HTC Dream = G1,
HTC Magic = Magic,
HTC Tatoo = T-Mobile Pulse,
HTC Hero = G2 Touch.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0
