  • On a completely different note, I have been sssooo lucky so far this month, I haven't been to the shops at all since Thursday (I think).
So I went along today to the Co-Op and one of the ladies that works there who I chat to a lot was out side on her break. She told me that there was to be a re-fit on the 25th of this month and if I looked carefully some of the price markers had a red mark though the price that meant that they were 75% off but it was only the "slow movers" I had only gone there in the first place because I wanted the toilet rolls at 2.50 for 12 that I had seen on this site.
Well slow movers are apparently everything that we just happen to eat or use. red pesto, sugar cubes, hot pepper sauce, tena lady, olives, red onion chutney, loads of stuff, and the best one of all rambouts coffee,,,,,,, I spent 8 pounds and had to call one of the boys to come and give me a hand, as the tr is really bulky and have no real handle to speak of.

I have just looked on the spreadsheet and nothing that I have bought has been full price, nothing at all. there has been one deal or another on everything.
( If I could now just stop getting library fines 8 pounds total this month alone)

But the best bit is........normally buy this time of the month I am scratching around hoping to find a forgotten pound coin in a jacket or the washing machine, it actually looks like I will be able to open a savings account by the end of the month and it not be a pathetic 5er.

  • OMG that's one complicated looking placemat!!! Well done!

You are doing so well with your woopsie buys, it's amazing that you haven't bought anything full price this month.

I guess since you paid £8 for 75% items, you could think of the food being only 50% off, and pretend that the library fines didn't happen? lol

I didn't get a lot done today, as I had a very very upset stomach. Coupled with a sick cat, it hasn't been much fun! She's recovering well though, running around and pestering me like she normally does, only with a nice bandage collar on :)

I mended my OH's glove the other day, using crochet, I will put up photos of that later :)

If you are unable to renew throuh an online form you should be able to phone or email your library and renew up to two or three times before you need to visit.

You will need your account number from your library card.
  • SanFran! Hello!

:( Sorry you were poorly, hope you are continuing to recover. Your lot ate some slivers of cucumber - DD would find that an alien concept without maternal 'direction'. I thought girls were suppose to be health and figure concious...

I am really amazed by your lucky find! Will they be closing for a refit? Sounds like you have great local shops. We haven't popped down to ours for a while. Ordered from Mr T as we need store cupboard and cat stuff. But on the plus side I won't need to do much shopping for a while as OH bought a new breadmaker on Sunday, 50% off at Argos, so home cooked bread is abounding. I now have to persuade him to put it on earlier in the evening. It is just not fair being woken up in the early hours by th scent of fresh bread wafting in the air and the rumblings of an empty tum!
    Put the kettle on. ;)
  • I thought bread makers had timers so that you can set it up to woft that lovely freshly baked bread smell when you get up in the morning?

Ha funny you should say that, my daughter never gave two hoots about her health or figure, although she did/does spend hours in front of the mirror, spending an hour before bedtime putting make-up on was her favorite pastime when she was about 15 . I still remember a time when if one of the boys as much as touched her hair she would scream and yell at them, it became a game for about a year :rotfl:

Now the boys on the other hand are very health concise they do a lot of sport, and apparently the girls like a toned young man :D I know both of them went out on New Years Eve in just T shirts  When I asked about it they just said,,, "So we could show off our muscles" (Crazy, crazy I tell ya)

  • OOOW tell us how you get on with the bread maker, I have often dremt about nice olive, garlic, or sun dried tomato bread that did not cost an arm and a leg!

Hopefully I have sorted out the library situation, up to now it has been a vicious circle with them I cannot afford to pay the fine, so I do not take them back so the fine gets bigger. The lady must have noticed that this happens a lot with me, so she took my email address and has said that from now on I will get a message when the books are due, it will give me 4 days notice, so hopefully this is the last fine I will get, also I must put the borrowed books in a separate place that way they do not get lost with my books then they are not forgotten about.

    Hello
Today has broken every rule in the compact challenge I'm afraid because we've bought a Wii! However, this was one of the occasions when I considered the purchase before buying and we fully researched it pricewise.
Our reasons are several [apart from the obvious one of quite liking the thought of having one:D]. Our son has Aspergers and has just started at senior school. Up unti now neither he nor we have been fussed about all the latest techie bits and tbh I've allowed him computer time but with a time limit as I don't want this to become a reason not to socialise. He has made some new friends and he has played on a Wii at some of his friends. We decided that the interactive element of the Wii would provide him with something to offer when his friends come round and also help him to improve his social skills aswell as being a lot of fun.
    Back on the compact wagon!

PS Does anyone have any good ideas what I could use 7 small lidded pate pots for - they are made of non recycable plastic? I've already thought that some would be good for hm pate storage but didn't want to bin them. Thx!

  • Aril apart from this comp I am totally at a lose with techno things, that said if your son has a condition and this helps, i see no reason for you to feel bad, I would buy a walking stick if the need arose,,,,OK this is a little different but you get the idea?

I make a lot of my own spice mixes would the pots be small enough for that. If you want to make some up here is a wonderful site. https://www.frugal101.com

  • Afternoon peeps :)

I went into town this morning with my OH and had a mooch around charity shops and the car boot sale. I was looking out for woolly hats for various charities, but the charity shops are charging on average £2.50 per hat!

I was sorely tempted then to buy an armful of hats when I saw a box in the car boot marked "hats - 50p" but then I saw that they were all brand spanking new, and they were very thin too. So not hats today.

I did buy a second hand patel stripy duvet cover, which would complement my crochet stuff really well, for a single pound.

We had our wheelie bin stolen couple of days ago. It's not so bad, as we were already discussing getting rid of the wheelie bin and have something smaller in the back yard, so in a way, whoever stole it did us a favour. Anyway, I wanted a nice cream bucket style bin with a lid, like this one:
    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60045656

and what do I find at the car boot? Yup, that exact bin!! We bought it for a £5. It was very dirty, but nothing my magic scrubby and a bit of soap couldn't shift. Oh I am so pleased! It's not everyday you find exactly what you're looking for the first time you go shopping for them!

SanFran - I'm glad your librarian is so helpful :) I think you should let us know when you get those reminder emails so that we can keep harping on at you here to take your books back :rotfl:

Aril - I think your purchase is totally valid, if it helps your son with his asperger's (as you know, I have it too, so I understand about the difficulties in interactions). I'm sure he will really enjoy it, although I must worn you, don't get guitar hero, that game draws me in so much that I forget other people might get tired of playing it with me for hours and hours :rotfl:
