iphone buying queries/ PAY GO & Simplicity / cancelling 3 contract

hi,
my 3 contract ends in jan2010.
3 have told me if i want to termintate and get pac code, i need to phone them or write to them by dec 4th to request pac.

i really really do not understand 02 pay go options and even their support didnt help, they answered half a question and then ignored me.

i think im gonna go for simpicity sim eventually.

In what order shall i do this?
shall i buy a pay go iphone? use pay go for a bit to test it out, see how much i spend etc.
And THEN if i want simplicity, then buy that sim.

I definately want to PAC my current number from 3.
So could i start using the NEW pay go iphone number/sim initially, PAC the current number over, and then PAC it over again to simplictiy?

thanks for any help

orange pay go = 250MB per month? compared to 12 months with 02 pay go?

  • how about this? :
    1) Buy handset pay go iphone (quidco)
    2) register/use it with new pay go sim for few weeks
    3) PAC over my old number from 3
    4) Use it for few weeks
    5) Buy Simplicity SIM (quidco) and port over number again from 02 pay go sim.

Basically i dont have to time everything or wait for anything. Eg i can buy phone now and play with it, and when im ready to do the other things, i can do that......agree?

Registering for the wi fi spots is diff to registering the actual iphone?

When i hook it up to itunes for the first time, its gonna get activated, right?
And when i encounter a BT Cloud wi fi spot, i register for the wi fi feature, right?

when you buy simplicity, you physically get a new sim in the post?

the wi fi feature with pay go is for cloud and bt hotspots, correct?
this feature doesnt come with simplicity does it?

I'd go with this but i wouldnt use the iphone at all on pay and go, i'd be getting the simplicity through quidco straight away and porting the number.

You get a simcard through the post pretty quickly, you probably could get it in the same parcel as the iphone if you order together.

You wont get free "the cloud" wifi with simplicity but you can use your own wifi with no problems.
  • thankyou
id like to try pay go to see how it suits me for a bit.
also i want to try to register the pay go sim when i come across a cloud or bt wi fi hot spot because you get it for 12 months, 6 months probably as they disconnect the pay go sim if its not in use after 6 months i think.

so the cloud wi fi is for the phone, and the bt openzone is for laptops? or are both hotspots for mobile phone?

who knows, i may be living in a cloud hot spot, in which case the internet connection will be wi fi by default...eg fast.....compared to 3g, and maybe i dont even live in a 3g area, in which case the phone will default to edge or gprs, which are slower technologies.

I'm not sure that o2 will let you change your payg number over to a simplicity if you port in the number from 3, so be very careful on that point.

Personally, I'd get a PAYG, make sure you're happy with it, and then get a simplicity sim, and then transfer the number over from 3.

You should be able to convert your 3 contract sim into a payg, then still port the number out at a slightly later date.

If you have a computer/laptop with wifi, you can tell if you "live in a cloud hotspot". However, unless you are in a major city, this is doubtful.

yes 02 will allow me to pac over from 3 to pay go.
ANd then allow me to transfer from pay go to simplicity (dont need a pac for this)
theyvve told me. With no time restrictions too.

i have 2 weeks to tell 3 i want my pac code. (30 day notice they say)
    contract expires start of jan.
so when should i get pac code? as soon as i request it? or at end of contract?

yes i have macbook, and yeah BT openzone is listed in available networks!
    and BTFON...(?)
So this means the default internet connection with phone will be BT openzone at home, correct? not a big issue i think, as ill probably be connected to home personal wi fi router anyway.

so BT openzone and Cloud hotspots are both for mobile phone and laptops?
  • when i asked for my pac code from 3 i got a txt from them about a hour later after the phonecall.

I think BT openzone & cloud do mobiles and laptops dont quote me though. (dont have a laptop to test myself)

Found this though that might answer your question
